However, Shayda is married with children. The story is told over a length of time. I usually avoid these type of stories but this one reels you in.
Shayda’s husband isn’t intimate with her often and he is disconnected for a very tragic reason. He loves his wife but he has a past that you will have to read to get further.
Troy loves Shayda and he shows it every time he sees her. Even when he is not near her. It is a tragic love as well, because Shayda, despite her infidelity knows she must break things off. She is conflicted because of her loyalty to her husband Hafez. She and Hafez are better off as friends not lovers/husband and wife.
There are so many stories within the story connected to the main couple that are endearing and heartbreaking.
The one consistent is Troy’s love of Shayda. Their love of each other spans time and begins and ends.
Just when they can be together something else gets in the way. This time they may be over forever.
True love story.
Troy is witty and sexy. He is alpha male and gentle as well.
Sweet sexy moments.
Emotional read with tragedy.
Troy Heathgate, on the other hand, is flirty, sexy, confident and the world is his playground at his fingertips. He doesn't have to want anything because he can get it, no problem. He goes after what he wants with no regrets or apologies. He's not a jerk, but he's definitely a playboy with a successful and booming business. I absolutely loved Troy, he is fantastic. He's intelligent, funny and charming, but he's also got a sensitivity about him that is magnificent. His patient with Shayda is infinite, so it's obvious that he's not after her for a fling only. He and Shayda see each other in a way that no one else does, and even though their encounters tend to be very brief, they are never insignificant. I loved his nicknames for her and how he showed his affection for her. Unfortunately for both of them, Shayda is married, but Troy will take whatever he can get of Shayda regardless. Seriously, Troy is amazing, and he pushes Shayda to be the real woman that she is and to go after her own happiness because as they discover, there are no guarantees in life and life is too short.
The way this story is written does not implicate any one person as the bad guy/girl and as far as relationships go, it is truly Troy and Shayda who belong together. That's not to say that I didn't like Hafez, Shayda's husband, because he's a good man, but their marriage isn't everything a marriage should be. There's some lingering baggage from the past that weighs them both down in the relationship and it's very sad. Yet I understood how they maintained such a strong devotion and mutual respect, despite the lack of passion and yearning. Shayda's life is really the focal point of this story, more so than Shayda and Troy's relationship, and it was fascinating because it spans three decades with all the highs and lows that come with the seasons, and Troy is still very integral in it. The writing and dialogue is fantastic. I've loved everything I've read by Leylah Attar.
So far, we're not even in the same country, on the same continent. I've had previous bad experiences with such books - I can only think one that didn't have that effect on me - so I steer clear of them. I mean, I find it perfectly normal to not read books that have things you dislike.
But yet again, Ms. Attar blew that straight up and shoved me out of my reading comfort zone. I blame her amazing writing style. I blame the way she knows how to pull you in and keep you wanting, needing more, interested and intrigued, rooting for the main characters. There's really no good guy and bad guy here. No hero/anti-hero. They all make mistakes but you can't help but forgive them and love them for them. You can't help but place yourself in their shoes and try seeing things through their eyes.
Shayda and Troy meet when they're both young. They're from different worlds and cultures. But Troy is mesmerized by her and only backs off when he sees her wedding ring. I can't tell you how much respect and brownie points that has earned him with me!
I'm pretty sure that's when I fell in love with him. Because, at first, we only see his playboy, womanizing side. But then we get glimpses from the past and, oh man, Ms. Attar knows how to gut you and gut you good.
Feels. So many feels, I can't even! This love story spans years and years and it gets put through the wringer really good, because why not? It hurts. Until the very last word.
These two have a lot to overcome and I loved the ending so much! *hearts in eyes*
Without further ado, my rating is 5 stars.
P.S. I really, really need and want a Troy of my own. Where can I find one?

Troy and Shayda are drawn to one another. When they were together, it was like magic, incomparable to your average love story, but when they were apart, it was achingly painful. These two had me in knots, thinking obsessively about the book and I almost couldn't bear to continue.
"You're dangerous. And you leave bruises. And your words disrobe me, and your kisses destroy me."
I needed some hand holding to progress, but I am so glad I continued. What these two go through in their lives is gritty, difficult but quite wonderful.
"I lift the bed sheet over our heads, letting the light filter through the soft cotton, while we hold hands in our private little fort."
I couldn't ever predict what was round the corner for these two, their families and where the journey would end. I am captivated by the story that Leylah Attar created. Her writing is seamless, exotic and conjures every scene so perfectly in your mind. I cried after closing the book, not during the book. The emotions evoked by this read leave me in admiration of this experience and the characters.

I wanted to hate Troy so much. He seemed like the typical bad boy who thought the world belonged to him and he could have anything and anyone he wanted. But I needed so little to fall in love with him. How could I not? He completely transformed Shayda. Made her a different person – positive and energetic. As if he was giving her wings to fly just like the butterflies that started everything. Their scenes were so full of love, romance and passion that my heart melted from this cocktail of emotions. The sceneries were described with such detail that I felt like I was living in this word and experiencing every single thing with them.
This is the 3rd book I‘ve read by this author and there is some kind of magic in her words. I can’t fathom it – everything is written with such simplicity and passion that you could feel it to the last detail. There were lots of hot scenes in this book and although I’m not a big fan of too much sex in a book there was some kind of intimacy in those scenes. Both of them kind of opened up to each other in those moments little by little. The ending was so tense and with so many emotions I had tears in my eyes by the end.
I loved that the husband character – Hafez was not made the villain in this story. Yes, they had issues which caused the whole love story between Troy and Shayda to unfold, but his character was a positive one by the end and I sympathized with him. I even hope she writes his story one day.
Beautiful, emotional and enthralling story, showing that the world is not always black and white. The lines are blurred sometimes and the things considered wrong could be those to change your life and make you live it happily and without regrets. I can’t wait to read the short story with Troys’s POV and hear his voice. He was such a remarkable male character <3
I've had this one on my kindle for a while, I felt reluctant to start it because I have loved all Leylah Attar's books and didn't want it to come to an end.
This is a slow burn romance, where both parties try to fight their attraction because Shayda is married, and they both place value in that commitment. That sounds strange to say in a book about cheating, but if you read it you will understand. From the moment they meet Troy and Shayda feel a connection, but he seems to be a playboy and she the happily married woman. appearances can be deceiving.
Its not an easy read, she doesn't cheat because she is in an unhappy or abusive relationship, she doesn't hate her husband. It takes a long time to reach a happily ever after for these characters. Life isn't always black and white and the book touches on difficult topics and the grey areas around love and how much love we have to offer. A beautifully intense story.
Beautiful, emotional and EPIC is the only way I can describe this story.
Set over a period of 18 or so years...it tells the love story of Iranian born Shayda and Troy ..
Sent to Canada for a better life, nothing for Shayda is simple, she looks for a sign where her path will take her. Instead, an arranged marriage to Hafez is made for her by her family.
Hafez is withdrawn at times and their marriage starts without passion. He's away from home a lot.
He is a good man, a good husband but because of things he has experienced as a child he is left emotional detached.
When Shayda first meets Troy, an up and coming business tycoon, seductor, a man who has everything....except the one thing he wants...her..Shayda.
Shayda stays in the background watching....but Troy has seen her and is totally mesmerized by her.
Choices, guilt... whilst we see their relationship slowly develop throughout the years into something beautiful we still see the pain, the feelings that pulls them closer and also apart.
When she finally makes a choice will devastating events change everything?
This is a very touching heartfelt story, beautifully written.
Its a brave story to write and I think thats what touched me so much.
I read such a mixture of genres, that when I come across a story like this, one that makes me feel the way I felt.....I know thats the reason I love reading so much.
There were subjects that were painful, heartbreaking but the author had me consumed into their story.
It should be made into a film..
I cried, I smiled, I cheered....I loved it.
Shayda and a Troys love story will stay with me for a long time..
I loved Shayda, she is a fighter, despite everything that happens to her and she stands by her family, even though she can see a different life within reach. I was routing for her all the way through, I wanted her to find happiness. Troy Heathgate is a cocky, successful man, who can have whatever and whoever he wants…except the one person he really wants. I did like him and felt for him throughout the story. I loved the way Leylah weaved the other characters into the story and their lives, crossing in and out, some I loved, some I despised but that is how a good book should make you feel.
This is a really good book and on you should definitely read.
However, 53 Letters For My Lover goes into the top half of my page in my notebook. I wasn't really attracted to the story line when I read the blurb but when you are searching for the next good story you take a risk and sally forth and read it. I am extremely happy to have picked this book, it has made my year, possibly my decade, but who knows what's to come in my search.
I highly recommend this book and I won't bore you with a synopsis, just take a chance and settle down to read the book of the year.
The love story of Shayda and Troy ....spans 18 years....a story of love, betrayal, hope, infidelity, enlightenment, heartache, laughter and lust.
"Somewhere in the fabric of all these years, our lives got tangled, like unruly threads pulling and snagging into impossible knots."
This simple is a must read.....just beautiful
It is rare to find such quality writing, poetic imagery and descriptions I wanted to read again and again.
A true love story. One of my favorite books of all time.
One of the most incredible and beautifully written epic love stories I have ever read!
A compelling and emotional debut novel that has jumped to the top of my favourites list.
A must read!
