This is a fast, fun, fine installment in an easy-read series, perfect for brainless beach reading. A good friend of mine noted that she was able to read it in half the time it usually takes for a book this size, because many of the chapters are about a page and a half long, and the chapter title pages start in the middle of the actual page. The book could have been easily printed in about half as many pages, so it's not even as "weighty" as its actual weight.
But, come on. We knew that going in. You're probably not going to start reading this series on the fifth book, so we all know what we're getting by now. Enjoy it! Wait for the paperback or go to the library if you feel cheated by the fluff in hardback form. Granted, this is not the James Patterson of Along Came a Spider, but again, you should expect that in this series by now. If you already like the series, you'll like the book - if you don't like the series, there's nothing new for you here. If you haven't read the series yet, start at the beginning and then decide.
The twist and turns that have you thinking you know who they are, then darn not the ones.
A doctor and a very well known lawyer scheming to take money from a big well known hospital while there is a "Night Walker" going around the hospital killing innocent people and their stay is not life threatening. So the families of 33 people died for unexplained reason that didn't make sense took the Hospital to court and lost. By the lawyer and the doctor that thought up the plan was in thick of it.
But at the same time they had to figure out who was killing and raping these college girls going to an escort service to make extra money for rent and school books, putting them in very expensive cars and they have been bathed and dressed in other clothes that are not theirs.
This book had 3 different cases at once and one was more twisted than the next.
I didn't get any sleep at night wanting to know what was happening next.
YOU GOTTA READ THIS IT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT YOU!!!!!
James Patterson fans "I TRIPLE DOG DARE YOU TO READ THIS BOOK!!!!

The book starts out (naturally enough) with a murder - a beautiful, petite young woman, about to hit her prime in life, is cruelly taken from this world in immediately mysterious circumstances. The body is found in a late model Cadillac, located in an underground carpark. She is clearly dead, but with no signs of forced entry into the car, no signs of assault or modus operandi, it is less than obvious how and when the murder took place. One complaint i have with the story telling is the habit of the girls to refer to the book’s first victim as ’The Caddy Girl’, for obvious reasons. I know this is a work of fiction, but i don't believe those working in any aspect of the legal profession would be so crass, and so disrespectful of the victim of a heinous crime as to refer to the victim in such a manner. I personally find it offensive, and I am as removed from the action as it is possible to get! Anyway, back to the story...
Examination of the corpse by the appropriate expert - and, naturally enough, one of the members of THE CLUB - soon reveals the reason for the death and the interest of readers right around the world will be piqued as their interest in the book, and the case, launches itself into hyperspace.
Fellow Club Member, and top shelf lawyer Yuki’s mom collapses on the streets of San Fran early on the book, and with a simple case of angina mixed up with a very minor stroke, she is kept in the supermassive San Francisco Municipal Hospital for a short stay for treatment, observation and full recovery. Hopefully, she will turn out to be one of the lucky ones. I say that, because there is a civil action against this hospital - and one Doctor in particular - for multiple cases of gross misconduct. And the Doctor in question - you guessed it - is the Doctor in charge of caring for, and medicating over, Yuki’s mom.
So hold your breath, fellow book lovers. This is going to be one wild ride. Having just completed reading and reviewing book fifteen of this amazing series (FIFTEENTH AFFAIR), there are one or two spoilers in the newer book which take some of the fun out of progressing through the backlog of this series, but that is just my bad luck for joining the fun so late in the game. THE FIFTH HORSEMAN is a very strong release, and as I have already mentioned, it is at turns gripping, suspenseful, and hugely action packed. What more can we ask for in a modern day crime thriller by two writers working perfectly in tandem?
Four stars for an excellent purchase in more ways than one.
Bye for now.
