If your brew sours, you probably pitched the yeast too soon. I speak from experience...With all I have written... Bottoms Up..!!
There is no rubber or other soft material that will allow for the lid to form a tight seal on the bucket. This causes c02 to leak from the lid and not use the airlock as it really should.
