Upon opening the package, I was surprised at the texture of the pan. The texture is much like the unglazed bottom of a handmade clay mug. It feels kind of rough and smooth all at the same time if that makes sense. Yikes, is this going to be easy to clean?
Before using it for the first time, in a preheating oven, I melted some coconut oil in the bottom of the pan. I then baked a veg/meat/cheese sort of casserole. There was some baked on food around the edges when I took it out where no coconut oil had been. I had to leave it in the oven extra long because one of the ingredients was taking longer to cook than anticipated. The upside, this would be a good test.
I did soak it over night but not for any particular reason other than I didn't feel like doing the dishes. The next morning, all the baked on food came off easily with my plastic scraper thing I love and dish cloth.
I have since used it twice more to bake another similar type casserole and a meat loaf. These were even easier to clean.
I am very pleased with how this pan cooks food and cleans up, so far. I haven't tried baking a cake or brownies yet so can't vouch how that would work but expect it will be fine. This pan is made in the USA as well. Says so right on the bottom.
I will be buying the larger size of this pan in the future since I am very pleased with this one. For me, it is always a nice surprise to make a good buying decision.
Hand washing all my dishes, etc, easy cleanup is important to me. These bakeware clean up really fast using the plastic scrapers, even baked on syrupy dripping . Just follow directions on their use.
I'd recommend these to anyone who enjoys baking.
