I wanted to improve the read/write performance of my 2005 x41 Thinkpad, and this is the only SSD PATA/IDE drive I could find that would be remotely compatable.

A faint current noise could be heard from the drive as it is accessed, which is a little disheartening. The drive's I/O performance is slight and not-quite appreciable during WinXP boot, but file transfers have seen a small uptick in speed. I don't think it was worth the price when fitted into a computer almost a decade old, but I'll take what I can get. Right now, the computer itself fares quite well against the Chromebook Series 3 and other current-generation netbooks.

This drive was purchased to replace the aging 4200rpm HDD in a Thinkpad X41t. With the new drive (which oddly enough was double the size), windows 7 was quite snappy, when switching windows in windows xp took over 5 seconds. So the JMicron controllers were supposed to stutter every few days on heavy writes... considering the fact that someone even makes SSDs for such an old platform, it sure beats stuttering every alt-tab.

Overall, a great experience and a great product. Like the first reviewer, I bought this to speed up an aging Lenovo X41t computer. The only problem is the BIOS doesn't like the drive very much, I get an error every time I boot up now. In reality, there is no problem, Lenovo is just proprietary. The drive works great and is fast, just too bad Lenovo whines a bit about not using one of their brand drives.

Just a very important note for this upgrade - you must use the recovery cds to reload the system - cloning the drive doesn't seem to work.
The drive works well, but after all the headaches to make this work, I thought the mfg should have provided better information.

Had a time mirroring my old drive to it, but not the fault of the drive. Once I got it working the speed increase was dramatic! No longer have to worry about carrying the tablet with a spinning disc anymore either. Love it!
