This is very useful if you have an older TV with no VGA port on it. However, there are no instructions with it as to how to set it up or anything. It came only in a ziploc bag with no other papers or even company info. You connect the VGA part to your computer, then the cords to your TV. Then on your computer, you go to the control panel and find Hardware section then it should say something about connecting a projector. You want Duplicate so you can still see your computer screen. Then you just have to play around with the settings on your TV input to find where it should be to play anything. Very difficult without instructions but works fine.

I was worried about weather this cable was gonna work. In my case it worked fine...

I have a Sony 32in LCD TV that has one RGB INPUT, one composite, and several HDMI.
And My DVR (RePlayTV) has RGB OUTPUT. It supports both types of Video RGB that is possible (and composite). I chose the YPbPr_ANSI video specify type.

If you having troubles, check the type of video your trying to connect to, they are all different and are-not-compatible with each other (in order of quality):
You should Google the first word, and what you looking for...
-- HDMI. (HD TV: 720p, 1080p etc), had audio, video, data, remote control, and more. Its USB-looking, instead of the RCA round cables connectors.
-- DVI. Digital Video. Usually is a White Computer cable there are different type. NO AUDIO is carried at all. You will need a Red and White RCA cable the sound.
-- RGB. YPbPr and RGB, AKA Component video. This is the kind that has 3 cables that are, Red, Green, and Blue. NO AUDIO is carried at all. You will need a Red and White RCA cable the sound.
-- Video cable. See RGB. Usually is a Blue Computer Cable. NO AUDIO is carried at all. You will need a Red and White RCA cable the sound.
-- S-Video. Separates the video signals for better picture quality. NO AUDIO is carried at all. You will need a Red and White RCA cable the sound.
-- Composite Video. Has just one cable. It usually yellow. Some times is mistaken with RGB, because its usually combined with two other cables, a RED and a White, for the Right and left audio channels. You will need a Red and White RCA cable the sound, if you have the single yellow RCA connector...

BTW. They make a box called an Upscalier, that will take Component, composite or S-Video and Audio in, and turn it into HDMI. Careful, to look for what you have, to what it converts, often the search engines will provide the OPPOSITE of what your looking for...

Lack of information will be frustrating for some users

When hooking this cable up from a computer vga to your tv rgb you will need to note that the video settings on your computer will affect the digital picture that is transferred through the cable. Typically your screen resolution is set to maximize picture quality and performance on your computer ex 1200x800. Using your graphics settings you can change this output to a resolution your television understands. If the resolution is incorrect for your tv, your tv simply doesnt understand how to make the picture fit so thus it will not display the picture. For those who have problems, try adjusting the screen resolution your computer outputs. Note if you use a laptop this may change the display on your lcd while you have the cable attached because your graphics card can only handle a specific combination of video modes between its own screen and the other one.

This IS NOT for those of you who wish to connect the old school Yellow Red and White rca cables. The yellow is the video and the red and white are left and right for your audio. THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS RGB, AUDIO DOES NOT COME OUT OF YOUR COMPUTER VGA PLUS YOU MAY DAMAGE ONE OR BOTH OF THE DEVICES IF YOU TRY TO USE THE INCORRECT CABLES.

RGB is SPECIFICALLY for HD, being that each cable is an individual video output which allows for a better picture quality.

A SEPARATE cable is necessary in order for you to transmit audio from your computer to your tv.

Didn't work connecting my DVD player to VGA port on LCD TV

Looking at the reviews, the scores are either 1 or 5, meaning that this solution seems to work for half the people who try it and not at all for the other half. Add my experience to the "not work" column.

To clarify, as my heading says, I DID NOT TRY TO CONNECT A COMPUTER TO A TV OR PROJECTOR. I tried to connect a DVD player with component outputs to a television with VGA input. The result was that only the green signal made it to the TV; none of the other color signals were there (pulling the other plugs out didn't even have an effect). I checked the outputs with other equipment and all was fine. This cord was the only thing wrong.

Some folks are posting that you need a special kind of component output for this to work. If so, the specs should specify. Perhaps this is an issue with standards across hardware, but the onus would should be on the seller to make it clear what the customer is purchasing and with what it will or will not work.

Great for video game to projector

I originally bought this to connect my PlayStation 3 to my projector: a cheap,3 year old Optima that only has a VGA and a s-video input. After some tinkering around with the PlayStation 3's video output settings it seemed to work. I got the screen to show up but the size was way too small. It probably wouldn't have looked as good as it does connected to the TV through HDMI anyway. I might have been able to adjust some more settings but I didn't really feel like messing with it any more. I really wanted to be able to connect the PS3 to both a projector and TV without changing the settings each time. The PS3 won't let you use two video outputs so I decided to just leave it connected to the TV with the hopes of buying a projector with HDMI input at a later date.

This cable did work beautifully when connecting my PlayStation 2 to my projector. The quality was just as good as my TV. Just plug it in without changing any settings. Too bad I don't have many games for the PS2.
