When you contemplate adding a multi-meter to your toolbox this Gardner Bender auto-ranging unit makes the decision easy. Equipped with an easy-to-read 3½ in backlit LCD digital display and magnetic holding strap making this tester ideal for automotive, appliance, circuit breaker, and other "hands-free" applications. In addition, the multimeter features rubber housing to promote a steadfast comfortable grip while wrap-around lead holders keep leads at the ready. Snap-in probes spaced to fit a standard outlet provide quick and easy testing with one hand. Engineered with seven testing functions; AC Voltage, DC Voltage, Resistance, Diode, Continuity, Temperature Probe and Battery Testing. The 7 position auto-ranging smooth rotary style achieves precise readings and the low battery indicator with auto-off function ensures an accurate read-out. Durable housing with a rubber boot is drop resistant to 6 ft. and crush rated to 150 lbs. Tight and secure input jacks keep the included 26" test leads fixed firmly in place during testing. Unit comes pre-packaged with leads, a magnetic attachment strap for hands-free operation, and user manual. Tester is rated CAT III 600V and conforms to UL 61010-1 standards and certified to CAN/CSA C22.2.

I am not an electrician by any means. This was handy for my attempt to revive an old video game system. I wanted to ensure all of the process was accounted for. Testing the outlet, then making sure there was voltage coming through the AC Adaptor and then determine if there was continuity with the power source and fuse. The system does not power on, so this was greatly helpful in determining the root of the issue. It is not necessarily made out of rugged material, but for the price, it was exactly what I expected. I'll just keep it around the house for electrical odds and ends.
