Only downsides are their bulk and how hot they are. And I haven't tested them in warmer weather yet, but I'm sure they'll be sweaty and hot. Otherwise, these are great and totally worth the money.
After 5 months use, the pads have held up great. I think since I have been riding more aggressively, I have had a few situations where my flat pedal shreds the back of my calf. Unfortunately last week, it shred the back of this pad. Huge flaw if this happens to you a lot. Otherwise, great pads. Other pads I have purchased are much more substantial in the rear area. Look into the alpinestars volcano. Bulky...but pretty bombproof for soft shell pads.
Down sides for this pad are minimal. In warmer weather (>80 deg F) they do get a little toasty and sweaty. Next, I can not pull these pads over my shoes. Like I said minimal downsides but not perfect. Durability is good but I will post an update, if needed after extended usage.
If you do shuttle days, bike parks, or love to hit the burly and chunky trails these are ideal. They offer heavy front & moderate side knee protection, don't slip during falls, and allow you to choose the tightness of the fit pretty well via 4-velcro straps. They've also held up through time very well. I typically pedal up, take off shoes, slide these on once at top because they are bulky/warm for longer rides. If you consider yourself a XC rider, go for lighter G-forms, if your primary trail rides are more than XC-type then these knee pads will be a great companion.
