I would give this a 4.5 star. This is the second Robert Dugoni novel I have read in the past week and I'm starting on my third one after his.
This stand- alone thriller by Robert Dugoni takes place in 1987 in the rough Tenderloin District of San Francisco where Father Thomas Martin is tending to his duties of the boys shelter he runs. The Father is then accused of killing a young boy and also of being a pedophile. This story hit all the right boxes for me and held my attention from beginning till the end. All the people were well fleshed out and it was well written. I would read a sequel, about lawyer PeterDonley, if the author ever chooses to do so.

Better than seven layer dip at the Fourth of July picnic.! So many layers upon layers of intrigue. Every twist and detail is totally believable and carefully consistent. The respect among characters that have integrity and deserve trust is followed through at every opportunity. Redemption for so many in such a concise tale is inspiring. An uplifting legal thriller for summer escape.

SF locations are always a good choice. Our lawyer hero seemed way too resilient. I find that too often in most books these days. Up and around a day after breaking a leg...not in this one but close. Ok for a plane ride.

My new favorite Dugoni book. I can' t believe it sat in a drawer all these years. I don' mind a story that takes place in the 80's - I lived thru it after all. Great characters, lots of intrigue, action and a spotlight on problems that are still relevant today.

It was an excellent book but it is not a happy book. Child abuse and all of it's after effects is the central theme. The legal and political dueling make an engrossing story.

The story is quite original. The characters are well portrayed. A very good take on homeless Children. Awfull to think there are Children who probaly do have to live like this. Not a lot of court room drama. The story resolves more around what really happened, thst fatefull night at a childrens refuge. Very good read. Hard to put down.

Crimes solved; faith restored; lives changed. These are the main themes I've gathered in this legal thriller. Well written, it's got a pull that's hard to resist that I have to keep my kindle out of sight when I'm at work.

The story revolved mainly around a priest accused of murder and his lawyer, who has not defended an accused criminal before. Both have ghosts from their past, but have each taken opposite ways of dealing with them.

Any legal thriller fan would definitely enjoy this book.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. It was an interesting book and I enjoyed it. There were slow parts throughout the beginning and middle of the book, but the end moved quickly. There were twists throughout the book, but pretty early on I figured out who was the murderer.

Outstanding plot, fast moving, just enough intrigue and doubt. Good cast of characters and interaction between them. Would like to see more of Donley.
