Speedy Gigabit performance—built for SMBs.Featuring Gigabit performance that’s 10 times faster than Fast Ethernet, the GS1900 is a series of switches with full non-blocking bandwidth of up to 1 Gbps per port. An ideal upgrade from an unmanaged switch, it’s a great choice for SMBs that want to enjoy high-speed business network applications at full wired non-blocking speed. |
Intelligent PoE+ powers more devices. The default consumption mode delivers only the actual power required by your networked devices, reserves the rest and optimizes its power budget. That means a single switch can power more APs, IP cameras and VoIP phones, ensuring a better ROI for your business. The switch supports the IEEE 802.3at providing a maximum of 30W per port and 170W total budget. |
Compact size, silent operationGS1900-10HP comes with desktop dimensions and fanless design. The slim and silent Switch can perfectly blend into any working environment without disturbing fan noises. |

Update: 80 days in and these switches have run flawlessly. The web interface is better than some other brands, but still has its own quirks. I just did a firmware update and that went fine with no issues. The POE has been solid, and I've had no issues with my VLAN configurations. Recommended.
I was looking for a relatively inexpensive managed PoE switch to finish installing IP cameras to the other side of my relatively large house so that I can use just one Cat-6 ethernet uplink to the main switch in the attic on the opposite end of the house, then eventually to the router (pfSense) in my office. This method, call it a substation in the attic, saves me from having to lay down extra ethernet cables, up to 100 feet each, in the hot 🔥 Florida attic. This switch fits the bill, thus far. I can't believe this Xyxel, managed PoE+, switch costs under $60.00. This is a great value for the money. I immediately canceled a similar switch en route for delivery, tp-Link, when serendipitously stumbled on this switch after placing that Amazon order. The tp-Link switch only supports 802.3af, whereas, the Xyxel supports both 802.3af/at and cheaper. In addition, the Xyxel operates at a higher temperature range, which I need since this puppy is going to live in that hot attic. This switch has all the basic level 2 features. However, it only supports one flavor of vlan, 802.1q. This works for me. My other switches support the other vlan options, which I don't use at this time. I have a complex network with many subnets, a managed switch with vlan capability is a must for my network. The power supply is outside the unit. It's a huge power brick, "wall wart." It's similar to the power supply cord/brick that comes with your typical laptop 💻 computer. It does come with an on/off switch
so you don't have to pull the plug when you want to turn the switch off. This "wall wart" maybe a negative for some users. This is a non-issue for me since this baby will live in the attic, and this is a plus since this will prevent more heat generation inside the unit since it's outside the unit. It's made of metal. No noisy fan/ lots of air vents on the sides & the indicator lights are clear of potential obstruction. They give link/ activity /power & PoE status. The GUI is simple & intuitive. Setting up vlan is easy & intuitive if you understand how vlan works. Some reviews say that the wizard for setting vlan is confusing. IMHO, a wizard is not needed if one understands the concept of vlan. I'm no network guru. I'm just a regular Joe when it comes to networking. I just do my research by using Google, YouTube & forums. This switch has additional nice features that I find very useful like PoE status <how much power being used by each device & available>. It appears that it doesn't support the spanning tree protocol for network loop. It appears to use this proprietary loop detection system. Overall, this is an inexpensive, solid basic PoE managed switch that's currently working flawlessly, which I highly recommend.

On my third order of the 8HP, I received the correct unit. It is solid and well made. Very sturdy metal case. Unit itself is small but power brick is BIG. Too big. Oh well... You remove 2 phillips screws to get the case open. Electronics look high quality with no visible quality control issues.
Instructions SUCK. No paper manual included, just quick start guide with basic cable connection diagrams to get you plugged in. Not much in the way of setup instructions other than the default IP of 192.168.1.1.
Zyxel does have a pretty good .pdf documentation of all the settings and whatnot on their website. Their youtube videos are pretty good as well.
But just connecting to the web GUI was hard to figure out because you don’t automatically get assigned an IP. This switch has no way of doing DHCP, so to get a local IP address, you need to change metwork settings to specify a local client IP address on same subnet as the switch’s default of IP (192.168.1.1), and you should be able to leave “default gateway” and “dns” fields blank while you configure client network settings to connect to the switch for the first time. Or connect the switch to a router or gateway that assigns IPs. If your router is default IP of 192.168.1.1, then either the router or switch will need different local IP as they can’t be the same, but they are by default.
Once I figured out how to get properly connected to the web GUI, and once I trained myself to remember to “Save” the settings so that they carry over after a restart (or restart without saving if something screws up, reverting back to previous good config), the rest of the setup was easy. This is my first network switch, so really pretty easy considering I’m a networking noob. Firmware is more or less intuitive and seems to have all the right features, although I’ve never dug into the settings of a managed switch before. Make sure to update the firmware immediately as I think it ships with an old version which has been updated to fix security issues, so very important to install that new update!
I’ve yet to hook up any PoE cameras, but I’m sure that will be no trouble. Speeds are FAST. I may be noticing a slight latency increase as could reasonably be expected since I’m adding a hop between client and modem, although I’m wondering if there are settings I could change to mitigate the tiny latency increase I’m seeing (do I need DNS servers specified on the switch? or will it always defer to my router’s settings?) Like maybe I have a slight misconfiguration...
Anyway, the next thing is to figure out VLAN tagging and configure that to work with my router so that I can securely administer my home network + surveillance camera system. If I can figure out VLANs and get that working, this switch will have be a great purchase!
So far so good, wish me luck! This crap ain’t easy to figure out...

Have had it on my network for a short time and happy with it so far.
Cons - the ip address was the same as my router and needed to be changed, which was not difficult to do. I do not know how to pronounce ZyXEL.
