So great trimmer when it works. Terrible customer service. (The super young kid that answered the phone sounded like she was chewing gum and texting someone else while half listening to me. She also didn't really seem to care one way or the other if I got what I needed. Like she'd taken 1000 calls just like mine and just didn't care anymore.) I'm now faced with the decision to wait 3 weeks and borrow my neighbor's trimmer, or go buy a more reliable one and relegate this to the 'back up/kid' trimmer.
THE BATTERY IS THE DEVIL. Been through 3 of them in 1 year due to total failure. Look at Lowe's own site for reviews on the battery. Everyone gives the tools good reviews but the batteries die after 6 mo. This is very common.
My only complaint about the unit is the direction of the rotation of the head. Every other trimmer (both gas and electric) I have ever owned spins clockwise. This unit spins counter-clockwise. As a right hander, I have always used my right hand on the trigger and my left hand on the forward handle. With the direction that this unit spins, this becomes problematic because everything I trim is flying back at my leg. Edging in shorts can be a real pain. So I have taken to using this device as a left-hander might: Left hand on the trigger and right hand on the forward handle.
One design addition that would be fantastic would be to have a choice about what direction you want the head to spin. With the electric DC motor, this should be was simple as changing the polarity. This would be an added benefit to using an electric trimmer over a gas trimmer.
2. Low vibration
3. Instant start, no carb to mess with
4. Good battery life (45mins- 1hr)
5. Battery charges in about 30 mins
6. Decent sized line for electric weed eater
7. Head design ( some trimmers have a poor design on there head, when trimming long weeds they will wrap around the trimmer and clog it up.. this is not good for the tool.. this however has yet to have that happen. Definitely a good feature
The cons however would be
1. Heavy ( I feel this is about as heavy as a gas if not a tad more, but you can add a shoulder strap to take some weight off)
2. Slower at cutting crab grass and thick weeds. It's not horribly slow and this doesn't take away from it all too much.. but it is noticeable slower than a strong gas powered trimmer when cutting thick areas..
3. Smaller trim line than gas trimmers. Again this doesn't take away from the trimmer much.. but it is noticeable.
If you are looking to buy a new trimmer and are leaning to a rechargeable model this is a nice one. I am pleased with the performance and I am used to gas ones. It is not (scary) like gas ones and obviously there is no mixing gas. Understand if you are switching from gas that there is still not any battery models that are as beefy as gas but they bring there own pros to the table.. I love how low vibration this is.. no more tingly hands after a long session.
