After contacting the company through their website, I was sent a replacement snow brush. Bumping my review up to three stars for their customer service, but still expecting the replacement brush to eventually fail in the same manner as the first.

After buying this based on the Wirecutter recommendation, I only used a few times before the locking mechanism for the swivel head broke. It's a snow brush, it should be able to clear snow off my car without breaking after only a few uses. Save your money, this thing is complete junk!

I have had a few of these snow brooms, always having a truck or a van for a vehicle. The biggest issues with them are the locking mechanism for the extension and the locking mechanism for the swivel head. After reading the product description written, I thought I would give it a try. Turns out it is not worth the money at all. I live in Maine where we get snow once or twice a week along with cold temperatures. The swivel lock has already stopped working on the second use on a three inch snow storm with a very small amount of ice. The extension lock seems to be sufficient and I had my doubts on the scraper, but it seems to be ok after only one use of the scraper. It's only December, we have three more months of snow, I'll see what happens with the scraper. Not worth $30 at all, $10 scraper at best. Do not buy unless the price gets down to there. I will have to put some screws into the swivel to be able to use it for the season. Am not impressed at all and was very mislead.

As much as I originally liked this item, it's not built to any kind of standard. I live in Maine, and as most people know we get feet of snow per winter. So far I've broken two cleaning off my truck. Now, you may say "Well, Justin, maybe you're a little hard on your stuff", and I would agree. S'why I got the second, figured it was me. But when it literally breaks in TWO, like the metal piece snapped in half, when I'm cleaning a mere 6'' of snow, I figure it's a junk product. I wasn't doing anything crazy. Just brushing off the top of my truck. Snap. Bends up in two.

We've been using this tool daily for the last week of Pacific Northwest snow and ice, and it has performed like a champ. It feels extremely rugged and well made, and I expect it to last a long time. The big brush can be turned parallel or perpendicular to the handle, so it's good for both sideways sweeping on windows and lower hoods, and for pushing or pulling snow off the roof and high hoods and windshields. The handle extends to multiple lengths for reaching across those really huge pickups and SUVs, and the locking mechanism feels very precise and reliable. The ice scraper is a beast, and combined with the sturdy handle it clears ice from the entire windshield quickly and easily. We haven't had any need for the squeegee, and I can't even really imagine when I would want it -- maybe when I wash the car in summer? -- but it feels like good quality if you have a need for that. The only "problem" is that this is a big tool, not the kind of thing you can stick in your door's storage pocket. It's the kind of thing you stash in the trunk, or keep on the porch to clean the car in the morning. Bottom line: I expect to be using this for years, and probably buying another one or two so I can have one in every trunk.

I will be contacting the company about this. This is so not okay and I'm very unhappy with how cheaply made this product is. Please spend your money elsewhere!

UPDATE: Received a replacement, however, with normal use during the winter of 2020, the plastic yet again is broken. RIght at where the extender is. Please, seriously, with how cheap the plastic is, it's better to just spend your money elsewhere. We won't be reaching out to them again or buying this item again.

The Wirecutter loved this product, but the reviewers must all live in Florida. The length of the scraper—which you’d think would be an advantage, right?—is actually a fatal flaw. With well caked-on ice, not just a delicate frosting, there simply isn’t enough leverage. The scraper ineffectually slides around on top of the ice. No amount of scraping pressure is possible without standing on the hood of your car. I had to resort to my standard glove-box sized scraper; this thing was a wasted purchase and will end up in the trash.

I purchased the Hopkins Quick Lock Pivoting Snowbroom after seeing it was the top pick by the WireCutter for snow removal from cars. The Hopkins Snowbroom replaced the cheap, $4 brush and scrapper I purchased each year from Metro, Wallmart of Shoppers. While the Hopkins is good, it isnt great and not as great as it should be for the price.

For scrapping, the Hopkins Snowbroom is fantastic. Due to its length you can really get some momentum as you plow through the ice with one arm cocked back at the end of the broom.

The length of the snowbroom makes it easy to reach far across the windshield or to brush on top of the car, but the length is also a problem. If you are in a parking lot, you have to be very mindful not to also hit the cars next to you because the snowbroom is so long, even when it isnt extended. I can see this as being a must have for a SUV owner. But, maybe not for a sedan like mine.

The brush is really the letdown. The bristles are very short compare to those on cheap scrappers and I actually keep a cheap scrapper in my car with the Hopkins so that I can use the brush. I am always worried that I am scrapping the paint on my car using the Hopkins. This could have easily been avoided with longer bristles and I would have expected longer bristles at this price point.

Overall, get this snowbroom if you have a SUV and you need a snowbroom that can extend to get the top of your SUV. Otherwise, keep looking for something better and far cheaper.

Subzero: brand name and the rating I'd like to give

I bought this from Amazon Warehouse with the condition "Used - Very Good". I was expecting a functional brush with some use marks.

Instead it arrived DOA: missing a screw and with a crack in the part holding the arms together. The two pieces will not stay together without the screw, and even if I provided my own screw, they would snap apart the first time you tried to brush snow.

Hopkins claims this is "standard strength". Hopkins: you need to do better. Reduce your executive level compensation a few thousand dollars and use better plastics.

It came with a sticker saying Amazon Warehouse claims it was "Inspected". Inspected for what? Amazon: stop overworking your employees so they have time to notice issues like this.

I'm not sure why the reviews are so high, but this is made for VERY light snow, as mine snapped in half on full extension. The bristles are too short and there needs to be some protection on the sides, so it won't damage the car when the non-bristle surface makes contact with the car's paint.

I've had this sucker for a couple of months now and I don't think my car and I could live without it (lol). I have a Corolla so with this brush extended I can reach from the trunk all the way to the front of the roof (where it meets the windshield), without issue – I'm also 5'9 though, so I'm sure that helps. Ridding my poor car of snow has never been easier or faster!

The bristles on the brush are quite thick so there's never much snow left behind after a swipe, the squeegee is probably the most sturdy one I've ever come across, and the scraper at the back of the brush pushes through ice like it's not even there. Having the swivel head option is great because sometimes you just need to brush off a little dusting of snow, so there's no need to open it up (which saves a step) and then when you have a mound of snow you can just open it up and breeze through it.

The only negative thing I would say about it is that 'closing' the brush after you've cleaned snow, if it's quite cold outside, the brush will freeze shut in your trunk. So when you go to extend it for the next use you have to be patient and gently try to pry it open. But it's nothing that I'm sure a quick wipe-down after use won't solve (if the brush is extended at the time of use). Basically just make sure the pole isn't wet when you close the brush back up and you'll be fine.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone in a snowy climate. It's also quite enjoyable knowing that I have this gigantic brush for my teeny tiny car and our family 3500 dually only has a little tiny one :P
