Now that I’ve had some playtime with this controller in a few games, I can say that this is my new favorite switch controller! It is my new go to for classic games, racing games and even...SMASH?!
__________________________________________________
Pros:
• PORTABLE (this thing is tiny, but not too small)
• Nice Clicky Buttons and DPads
• Wireless
• Lightweight and Comfortable
• PRICE
As someone with bigger hands, I was afraid I would crush the thing trying to play some games. Nope, it is extremely sturdy for being such a thin controller. It is roughly the size of both joycons put right up against each other. Not to mention the controllers rounded edges and smooth back just allow your fingers to wrap around the frame, somewhat like an original SNES controller.
Cons:
- No NFC, Rumble or Motion Controls
- Not good for 3D Platformers or FPS titles
I don’t personally use NFC or Motion, but I know for some people that is a dealbreaker. In that case, I say go for the SN30 Pro or just the Pro Controller
3D platformers require an extra level of accuracy that his controller just doesn’t fully deliver on when picking it up for the first time. I’m sure you can learn it, but these are my first impressions.

Here are some of my first impressions for the games I’ve played using the 8bitdo Lite controller:
NFS Most Wanted: Very responsive and fun to play! Drifting is a phenomenal with this controller. I’m sure Mario Kart would feel the same, if not better!
Mario Tennis: Running around the court took some getting used to with the dpad, but after a while it started to feel natural. Kind of reminded me of the GameBoy Mario Tennis games. The lack of motion controls makes the ACE shots lack impact however.
Link’s Awakening: YES! This is the perfect controller for this game!
Super Mario World (SNES NSO): This controller made the SNES games play like a DREAM! I was able to play with accuracy unlike any other controller I’ve used to play SNES games on my Switch. This is a must buy for classic game fans!
Smash Ultimate: Going in, I had very low expectations using this controller. Smash being a 2D game, I thought the game would feel right at home on a dpad...I was sorta right. Smash veterans play extremely well on this controller. I felt like I was able to execute moves more confidently on this controller as opposed to an analog stick. Kazuya on the other hand was a different story. I could pull off some of his move just fine, but it took some time for me to adapt to the dpad. I’m sure Street Fighter 2 vets will feel right at home with the dpad though, just not me personally (yet).

All in all, I recommend this controller to those who enjoy classic games or want to try some a little more unconventional for more modern titles. For $25 you really can’t go wrong. I am very happy with the gamble I took on this controller and I’m hoping this review (albeit long) helped you pull the trigger on this controller!
TLDR: Controller good, but not perfect. Fit my needs just fine though :)

I am very happy with the gamble I took on this controller and I’m hoping this review (albeit long) helped you pull the trigger on this controller!
TLDR: Controller good, but not perfect. Fit my needs just fine though :)
The controller is fantastic to use for 2D games where analog sticks are not only unnecessary, but even hinder the experience. In Link's Awakening, your movement is locked in 8-way movement and the controls can't be changed to the dpad. Dragon Marked for Death is a 2D platformer where the default movement is using the left stick, and 4 item shortcuts can be mapped to the dpad. While you could swap the controls, you realistically want a dpad for your 2D platformer movement as well as a dpad for your 4 item shortcuts. The right stick is often used for camera control in numerous games, and it's possible to unintentionally bump into it during an intense action sequence. Not so with this controller!
This controller has also become my favorite for slower paced games like RPGs and tactical games. The controller is so small and light weight that you can hold it however you want one-handed while laying on a couch or bed. Mashing the A button to blast through your excessively high random encounter rate in Octopath has never been more comfortable! In many RPGs, analog sticks can be used for analog movement, but it also tends to be more forgiving in being able to clear it with the 8-way movement of a dpad.
The build quality of the controller is great. The buttons and dpads have a short travel distance and have a satisfying click to them. It connects quickly, and there's no noticeable latency to the controls. The listed battery life is 18.5 hours, and while i have not actually tested it for 18.5 hours, I do believe that to be an accurate estimate. After a full day of gaming, I still had approximately 2/3 battery life remaining. Its very easy to use wired to the PC or wirelessly to the switch or bluetooth to a PC. Remember to toggle on Steam's Switch Pro Controller support in your controller settings if you're going to use it through bluetooth. It mimics a 360 controller while wired to a PC.
There are some shortcomings to the controller. First of all, it's very small. I tell my friends that the controller is small, and when they actually hold it in their hands, it's even smaller than they thought. It can potentially feel very cramped over a long period of time. I do hope 8bitdo will make a larger, more ergonomic variant of this product. I have noticed that there's two main ways that people hold controllers. You can hold a controller so that the face is mostly facing you, or you can hold a controller so that it's more level with the ground like a table. If you hold this controller mostly facing you, you'll need additional fingers below the controller to support the weight, which makes the controller feel very cramped. However, holding this controller more like a level table with your middle fingers supporting the center of mass allows your hands to be more spread out. The only other awkward thing to get used to on this controller is the placement of L2 and R2 are on the side of L1 and R1 instead of below like most controllers. However, I am happy to say that L2 and R2 are digital instead of analog like most controllers.
So, would I recommend this controller? Yes, but don't expect it to be the one controller you use for every game in your library. If controllers were shoes, think of this controller as your snow boots; use only when appropriate.
