5.0 out of 5 stars This is the one you are looking for, the perfect companion to your SNES classic.

This is a fantastic addition to the SNES classic, updated wireless controllers. As seems to be par for the course 8bitdo hit the ball out of the park and created a perfect upgrade for this system. We did of course, have to wait for it. I pre-ordered months ago and they finally released in December 2017, the date of this review.

I purchased two of these, one in each color for the USA version of the SNES classic, both work, so the only difference between the two is cosmetic. Choose your color scheme.

I tested these controllers at a distance of about 20 feet, and experienced zero input lag at all, none. I used Super Mario World and Super Punch Out as benchmark testing games as they are both very twitchy and would show input lag with the controllers if it was at all an issue.

The tactile button pressing is perfect, not at all stiff to start with, very tactile and satisfying. The shape and size is nearly identical to the old SNES controllers, the only difference I could find was the cosmetic panel on the front, and the flat back of the controller. On the original SNES the back of the controller was slightly contoured, the difference is barely noticeable but is worth mentioning for purists.

The weight is good, a slight bit heavier than the original SNES controller, but 20+ years later being now used to a heavy XBox controller now, I actually wish the 8bitdo controller was a slight bit heavier but others might disagree.

Quality wise there are no complaints, the 2.4ghz dongle, the included cable and the controller itself all seem to be quality pieces of equipment.

They took about 1 hour to fully charge out of the box, and they auto power off after a short duration of not being used. For the sake of battery, I wish the usage for turning off the controller was shorter, 5 or 10 minutes rather than the stated 15, but as it is there is a 25 hour play time advertised so it should be good.

Pros:
No input lag, this is the most important.
Quality Manufacturing.
Charge Time is about an hour, with 25 hours of battery life.
Plug and play, no installation hardware, no settings to mess with. Quick and Easy.
Tactile button pressing, quiet and seamless.

Cons:
Could be slightly heavier, but are still heavier than the original SNES controllers so this is personal preference.
Price, I purchased 2 for about $25 a piece. Which nearly doubled the price of the SNES system... still worth it.

In short, this is the controller you are looking for. It is worth the price $25, it is worth upgrading your system with these controllers and it is a MUCH better option than cord extensions. Get this one.

Yes I love the convenience of being able to play from across the room. Solid connection and good battery life. Disassembled the adapters and tucked them in for a cleaner look.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for SNES classic owners!
Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2018
The 8bitdo SF30 is an excellent addition to the SNES classic. I would call it essential. It is exactly the same size as the controller included with the console. It weighs 89 g, compared to 82 g of the original. The face buttons have a very similar feel when pressed, but they are all rounded, as opposed to the original which has recessed x and y buttons and rounded a and b buttons. The directional pad has the same shape and texture, but is slightly talle (almost imperceptible), and has a more "clicky" feeling to it. The shoulder L and R buttons are the opposite, they have a softer, less clicky feel to them compared to the original. The start and select button are horizontal, instead of the angled position of the original, but have the same feel when pressed.

Upon playing Super Mario World with it for a few minutes, I could not see any difference in performance. The difference in weight gives it a good hand feel which I actually like. I could not notice any input lag; I ran through several levels without any mistakes that I could attribute to input issues.

It came ready to use out of the box; had enough charge to play without the red led that indicates low battery ever turning . The receiver dongle just plugs into the console, and the remote connects by just pressing the start button; I was playing less than a minute after opening the Amazon box.

At this early stage, I can recommend this controller, and in fact, I doubt I'll ever use the original again.

I will update the review with battery life info or any quality issues that may arise, but as of now, I would consider this the must have accessory for the SNES classic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid - can't firmware update and plagued with issues when paired
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 1, 2019
I bought the pads a while back. They seem to work alright with the snes mini on their own, but try and pair them up and use 2 and you'll hit major issues with latency and disconnects. I've spent a solid 3 hours of my life trying to update the pads to the latest firmware via their support section and can't manage it. They offer the firmware upgrade to version 4.10 but trying multiple paths to get this done on both Windows and Mac was fruitless. I then see on their marketing / sales side of the site the "Firmware updating is currently disabled", but nothing about this on the support section at all. Absolute waste of time. Connection is unstable, won't work as a pair, misses 1/4 button presses as a result and the latency is horrific. Add the fact in you can't update the pads to a known firmware that actually fixes this issue - absolute shambles. Waste of money. Buy a wired extension cable instead and don't waste your time like I have.
