Luke is a really great guy. I cried A LOT while reading this book! Basically all through it!!! It was sooo beautifully moving and adorable and full of hope. --BJ's Book Blog

This story will pull you in and you wont want to let them go. It makes you think things differently. I love how a story is like that. Makes you think twice. Just a sweet heart felt story that I am so glad I got to read!--Shay from goodreads.com

A beautiful story, the words flow easily, and I love how down to earth this book was. The feeling from the start was I was one of Luke's friends having a Coor's with him.--Leann from CherryBlossoms

I lost myself in Luke Crawley's journey of loss, love and healing through Emily's letters.--Suzanne from goodreads.com

25 year old Luke has been just existing since his beloved wife Emily died from cancer a year ago.
He's recently started having meaningless, drunk sex with a co-worker from the bar ....but he doesn't want that anymore.
He has to get his life back on track. His wife wouldn't want to see him acting like he has been these last months.
Just the perfect time for those NINE LETTERS to arrive on his door step.
Letters his wife wrote to him before she died, knowing he would probably not be able to deal with losing her.
The letters are tasks.... things he has to do. And unless he finishes one task, he's not allowed to open another letter.
The first letter tells him to go and buy - or rather rescue - a dog.
He doesn't want or need a dog - he can barely take care of himself right now...a dog would be stupid.
But of course he finds himself at the local animal shelter the next day....
That's where he meets Rae...
Rae.
A girl not without some problems of her own....
And of course Luke is not ready for something serious yet...

WILL HAPPEN TO LUKE & RAE??
WHAT WILL THE LETTERS TELL LUKE?
WILL HE BE READY FOR HIS SECOND HEA???
WILL THERE BE A CLIFFHANGER o.O

GREAT STORY!!!

I was really excited to get started with this book.
I LOVE the cover...
Ok - this 'letters from a dead spouse' thing is not really anything new...BUT - I really loved the way it was done here.
Luke is a really great guy.
And to lose the love of his life at such a young age...the poor guy.
I cried A LOT while reading this book! Basically all through it!!!

As soon as I saw this one go up on Facebook, I felt needy. I needed this book in my hands. I needed to meet Luke. I mean the cover alone pulled me in. Then add in the synopsis and I was drooling (like a lady of course). Blake Austin's debut novel was a powerful story of overcoming horrible tragedy at a young age and then having to work to find even keel again. I was very much enthralled with the start of the story but seem to be in the minority in that the second half just didn't quite give me everything I'd hoped for.

Luke's story begins a year after his wife's untimely death. He found his soul mate while in high school and married her as soon as he could. When she's tragically taken from him, his life gets put on hold. He stops doing contract work and instead works as a bartender. He spends his nights drinking away his sorrows and having hate-sex with on of his coworkers. But when he finds 9 letters that mysteriously showed up at his house from his deceased wife, he starts to try and get his life back on track.

Following his wife's advice, he begins to pull himself together. A trip to the animal shelter puts Rae in his path. Rae has her own past but it seems to Luke that she has the light he is desperately searching for. Letter by letter he tries to mend his heart and remember everything he had with the love of his life while moving forward hopefully with Rae.

Told from Luke's point of view I was hooked from the start. His obvious suffering was hard to read about as were his coping mechanisms but I appreciated the "realness" of his actions. His story was never over-dramatized but what written in such a way that I could completely emphasize with and understand his motivations.

I'm going to start off right away and warn this is not anywhere near a HEA. This is a story about an average person who lost his first love. Think PS I Love you meets Gus. It was a well written novel. It felt realistic. Had the POV been a girl, I know many would've rated it different. We don't often see a male character struggling like Luke. He's a hot ass mess and has every right to be. He follow him through simple tasks his wife leaves behind for him. They aren't insane unrealistic tasks, just things she knows he needs.

Stunning Debut Book - Heartfelt Story - Male POV! 5 Stars

Definitely a multi faceted read. I clung to the Luke/ Emily story line. Young, true love, gone much too soon. Incapacitating grief claws at you as you get to know Luke, and then we get the gift Emily left Luke. Amazing foresight borne of true love. Watching Luke respond, heal and move forward one baby step at a time was gut wrenching, heartwarming, enthralling. An absolute page turner. I didn't stop till I was done.

Some people attached to the Luke/ Rae relationship, the story of the here and now. It was great to watch the progress of their everyday lives - a deliverance of Luke's grief and Rae's struggles. This story line was the layers of hope in the book, the rays of sunshine that helped dry all the tears... and provide a much needed HEA! I loved this book. Raw emotions from such a talented young man! I can only imagine what Blake's music lyrics must be like! Stunning Debut Book - Blake is a beautiful soul...
