Product Description

Color: White/Gray

The AUTOMATIC X is the most technically advanced vacuum cleaner in the world! It features an electronic controller that acts as a brain, measuring the resistance of the brush roller against the floor and signaling the power head to adjust up or down to the appropriate brush height, to ensure optimum performance on both carpet and hard-floor surfaces. The controller also regulates a warning system that not only alerts the user to problems such as clogs, a worn brush, a full bag and brush roller obstructions, but it also automatically shuts off the vacuum, when necessary, to protect the motor and belts from damage. In addition, the AUTOMATIC X has a convenient instant-use cleaning wand and suction hose, and it comes with a lifetime belt warranty.

Instant-use Wand and Suction Hose – The integrated instant- use wand and suction hose are always ready. Just pull out either tool, or both together, to clean hard-to-reach corners, edges and crevices. The wand and hose together have an eight-foot reach. The suction hose is ideal for cleaning furniture.

The AUTOMATIC X Series – The AUTOMATIC X4 is 12-inches wide with a cleaning path of 10 ½ inches and one-sided edge cleaning. The AUTOMATIC X5 is 15-inches wide with a cleaning path of 14 ½ inches and two-sided edge cleaning.

Automatic Height Adjustment: From Hard Floors to Carpets – The electronic controller adjusts the power head up or down to the appropriate brush height, providing optimal cleaning of both carpets and hard floors. The “sealing strip,” located behind the brush, improves hard floor cleaning performance by channeling the airflow and preventing debris kickback.

Sebo Upright Vacuum Cleaner
An electronic controller automatically adjusts to the brushroll height ideal for each flooring surface
Brush Obstruction Light with Automatic Shut Off – If an obstruction jams the brush roller, the red “check brush” warning light flashes quickly, the brush roller immediately stops spinning, and the vacuum shuts off. This feature prevents the belts from breaking and protects the motor and carpet from damage.

Protective Rubber-coated Wheels – SEBO’s wheels protect all floor surfaces and provide smooth maneuverability.

Worn Brush Light. Easy Brush Removal and Cleaning – When the brush roller’s bristles are worn to a point that brush agitation is less effective, the red “check brush” warning light remains illuminated during use. (The vacuum continues to operate; it will not automatically shut off.) When needed, installing a new brush roller or cleaning hair or other debris from a used brush is quick and easy, and no tools are required!

Easy Maintenance – The clog removal door, brush, and replaceable hard floor “sealing strip” are easy to access. A Low 5 1/2-inch Profile – Lower the handle flat to the floor to clean under beds, or lower it to the intermediate stop position to maneuver over rugs. Depress the foot pedal again to bypass the intermediate stop position, or close this position by moving the orange handle-position slider.

Sebo Upright Vacuum Cleaner
The extremely low profile allows for easy cleaning under furniture
Bag Full or Clog Light with Automatic Shut Off – When a full bag, a clog in the airflow pathway, or an excessively dirty microfilter is detected, the red “bag full or clog” warning light illuminates, the vacuum automatically shuts off after 30 seconds, and then the warning light starts continuously flashing. This feature prevents overheating and motor damage from a lack of adequate airflow.

Sebo Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Included Tools & Accessories
Three On-board Full-size Tools. Large Filter Bag – The vacuum comes standard with a crevice tool, dusting brush, upholstery nozzle, and a large 1.4-gallon filter bag. Also, many optional accessories are available.

Forty-foot Cord – A 40-foot cord saves time, by reducing the number of electrical outlet changes needed during use.

Bags are Better! Top-fill, three and four-layer bags are an integral part of SEBO’s filtration system because they hold virtually all dirt captured by the vacuum, which improves the effectiveness and useful life of the microfilters. They also ensure continuously strong suction because dirt enters from the top, deposits at the bottom, accumulates upward, and air exits through the sides, which allows unimpeded airflow as they fill to capacity. And they can be sealed when full, so no dust can escape into the air during bag removal and disposal.

S-class Pre-motor Microfilters – S-class Pre-motor Microfilters (S = “Schwebstoff” = airborne particles) are made from electrostatically charged micro-fiber material, which attracts and captures dust particles from the airflow of the vacuum before it passes over the motor to cool it. Cooling the motor with super-clean air increases motor life and reduces the possibility of maintenance, even after many years of use. The S-class Standard requires filters to absorb greater than 99.9% of particles down to 0.3 microns in diameter. For comparison, 100 microns is the diameter of a human hair.

Designed and Manufactured in Germany – Legendary quality, reliability and performance make SEBO vacuums the first choice of cleaning professionals throughout the world.

Excellent for Users With Allergies or Asthma – The British Allergy Foundation recommends SEBO filters.

Tightly Sealed Vacuums Ensure Effective Filtration – Dirty air, which flows through a vacuum, can only be filtered completely if it does not escape into the room through seams or seals in the machine. This is why all SEBO vacuums have tight seals throughout. Many vacuum companies with high-filtration claims are actually quoting specifications made by the manufacturer of the filter material, as measured in the laboratory, not the filtration effectiveness of the vacuum itself while operating. Whether or not dirty air can escape through leaks in the body of the machine is not considered. The filtration effectiveness of SEBO vacuums is tested while they operate.

Save Money! SEBO Vacuums Last for Years and Extend Carpet Life! – If properly maintained, SEBO vacuums save ordinary residential users hundreds of dollars by providing excellent performance for ten to fifteen years or more, and their deep-cleaning power-brush technology extends the life of carpets. Typical vacuums perform poorly, even when new, and usually do not last beyond two years. So six or seven “disposable vacuums” must be purchased during the average life expectancy of just one SEBO machine.

Five-year Warranty Coverage – All SEBO models include a five-year warranty on the motor and all non-wear parts and a five-year warranty on labor charges.

Wow, it's been a month since my Sebo X5 arrived and am I impressed! I've owned several uprights before, but this is the first time I've bought specifically for pet hair removal from carpet. My choice came down to either one of the Dyson Animal products (which I'd heard of before) or this Sebo brand (which I hadn't heard of before). It was a real toss-up until I read the user comments on the two manufacturers' web sites. It seemed that the Dyson customers' comments ran a bit more negative and in particular some repeat customers complained about declining quality and degrading seals over time.

Some highlights:
1. Great ability to pick up hair entangled in area rugs (look like new now!), regular carpet, and hardwood and tile floors.

2. I can't believe how efficiently the machine packs the bag! When the vac tells me it's full I usually find a bit of a hairball caught up in the bag input, but no problem to remove. Suprisingly the bag is so full I can barely push the hairball in! The full bag is like a brick and can stand on its own. Changing the bag is easy and pretty clean.

3. This machine is much quieter than any other vacs I've owned.

4. Love the long power cord and simple design.

The only con I've noticed is the hose is too short to be of much use without the wand and the wand seems completely useless. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but I'd certainly suggest buying the extension hose if you intend serious use of attachments.

I think a lot of people are getting tired of the cheap, plastic crap coming out of most vacuum manufacturers. I finally got fed up with my LG Kompressor LUV200R and started the search for quality. I went around to various local vacuum stores to touch & feel the higher quality stuff. The two I was most impressed with was the Sebo Automatic-X series and the Simplicity Symmetry Premium w/ belt protection. The Simplicity Symmetry is the sister to the Riccar Vibrance; both of which are made by Tacony Corporation in the USA. I looked at a Miele S7 too, but I felt that the build quality was not up to par (mainly the bag door and wheels) with the Sebo or Simplicity/Riccar. I've heard great things about Miele's canisters but, I thought their upright model was disappointing. Both the Sebo and Miele are made in Germany. I ended up getting this exact Sebo X5 model, down to yellow/blue color, primarily because of so many positive reviews all over the Internet. One thing I will say about the Simplicity/Riccar machines is that they may be more suitable than the Sebo if you have high pile/thick carpeting. I could tell in the store that the beater bar on the Simplicity was far more aggressive. On the high pile carpet samples in store, it did better than the Sebo. Reviews seem to confirm this.

The build quality of this machine is outstanding. It is of solid ABS plastic construction that does not flex, bend or squeak. I really like the modular construction of this vacuum and just how easy it is to take apart. Should something break in the future, I feel pretty confident that I would be able to order the part and replace it myself. Unlike bagless machines, the air pathway is very simple and therefore easy to clear a clog.

Hello. If you are like me you have read more reviews about vacuums than you have read books (ok almost). Its enough to make your head spin and with the amount of $$$ its fair to be doing heavy research. I had a dyson for 10 years, i was sick of cleaning out the belly of the dyson on top of all the other cleaning i do all day. i wanted bags. i read every review known to the internet regarding vacuums. at the end of it i ordered this one because it has BAGS, goes under cabinets and furniture easily, easily repaired and cleaned, and the auto level thing seemed cool, claims air cleanliness. It also has the hose for when you need to reach a tough spot. It does all those things. I love it. I will admit though - it DOES NOT LIFT THE BEATEN DOWN CARPET AS WELL AS DYSON does does. I dont know why but maybe its the beater bar or the suction? I am still happy with my purchase its much easier to use than the DYSON for everyday cleaning. The bag thing is a major time savor - it packs the bags so tight i have had it for months and only had to change the bag once (vs washing the dyson EVERY TIME single time i vacuum) it gets every grain of sand and crushed cheerio my toddler can throw down. it picks up all the pet hair and my carpet looks new at the end. We'll see how it does over the next ten years :D

This machine is very well built. The filtration is second to none, which is very important to keeping dust out of the air for a clean house. Sucking dust off of the floor and blowing it back into the air is a bad idea. The build quality is excellent as well. The one gripe I have with this vacuum is that the height of the head is only adjusted by the vacuum's "brain" sensing the resistance of the brush roll and adjusting it accordingly. In theory, this is very convenient. In practice, it's annoying if you're actually paying attention.

If you plug the vacuum in, turn it on and just go to town the head will come down only enough to skim the surface of the carpet. You won't feel much resistance because there isn't any. It's not digging into the carpet.

If you turn the vacuum on, then push the vacuum onto a flat surface, such as linoleum or tile, you can let the head automatically adjust all the way down to it's lowest setting. After the head has come down, you can yank the vacuum onto the carpet and start vacuuming right away. NOW the vacuum is really digging into the carpet, this is about where I want it to be. The head will adjust up a little bit, but it will not come to anywhere near the level it would have been at had you just started on the carpet. If you stop vacuuming at this height and pause in place to maybe pick something up off of the floor, the head will start to come back up.

So the tolerances for acceptable levels of resistance at the brush roll that are enforced by the vacuum's "brain" are pretty broad, and it's kind of all over the place with sometimes a deep clean and sometimes a quick skim. It's important to note that this being the X-5, it has a broader cleaning path than the X-4. Otherwise, the X-4 and X-5 are identical.
