We are quite the foodies. There is a lot of time spent in the kitchen fixing most meals from scratch. Everything from bread to pasta, seafood dishes and everything in between. There is plenty of handling raw chicken, fish and meats making for sloppy hands needing washing often.
For the kitchen, it's nicely outfitted making all the cooking adventures easier and more enjoyable.
So, when we needed to replace the faucet, we considered a couple key features: functionality, appearance and cost.
Having seen many Food Network cooking shows using Touchless faucets, it made us think about how nice it would make clean up. And it does. It has worked flawlessly. After 3 months, it works great.
For the appearance, we chose rubbed bronze. We have stainless appliances, but the countertops are a light beige granite with dark brown crystal / quartz-like accents. The bronze is a nice complement.
The cost is very pricey, but cheaper at Amazon than local hardware stores.
For the installation, I did it myself. My skill and experience level is pretty high. I've done plumbing projects in the past including switching bathroom faucets. So, I was relatively confident of tackling this.
The instructions were very detailed. It made the process much easier. One tip is the order for installing the optional part into the counter. Since we were replacing an existing faucet, there were 4 holes already in the countertop. We opted for the faucet, separate control, soap dispenser and third party overflow. It would've been a bit easier to do the overflow and soap dispenser first, since they're at the outside of the sink.
Other comments said they did it in 2 hours. Mine took longer, but here's why. Shut off water to the house, switch out valves for hot and cold water at sink, dismantle original faucet without harming sink (some wood, glue, clamps from original home installations and making sure wouldn't cause problems later if removed), remove original overflow with dishwasher, THEN install new faucet, lever, dispenser and overflow, turn house water back on, check for leaks several times, put tools away, and cleanup. Total time: 4.25 hours.
We love, love, love the new faucet. Water pressure and flow is way better than the old (this could be the new under sink valves I installed). It's so great to touch the faucet with your wrist or forearm to clean hands. No more cleaning the faucet after washing hands.
Another awesome feature: clean look of the faucet. What I mean is the old faucet was chrome. With the bronze, you don't feel like you need to constantly clean and shine all the parts to see the sparkle and reflection. (Ok, maybe a neat freak here, but most people want the food area always looking clean.)
It's been 3 months and no complaints. At least once a week we still comment how great it is. Who would ever guess saying that about a faucet?!?
Hard to believe we've had this faucet over three years. We still love it, looks great and works great. We replaced the original batteries after about a year. It has been the only time replacing the batteries. Since this is our kitchen faucet, my wife stays at home, and we regularly hand wash dishes, I'm impressed with the quality and how long the batteries last.
As for function? Better than I imagined. There is a colored LED on the bottom of the faucet stem that changes colors from Blue to Magenta to Red as the water temperature changes cold to scalding, so you should have a good idea of what you are getting into. The sprayer head is plastic, really a benefit in this instance, as handling it does not switch the water off (or on) in use. The touch controls are so handy and so easy to get used to that I find myself knocking the bathroom sink spout with the back of my hand to turn it on!
