I was so happy when Owen started to stand up to Mud and it was a relief when Owen let Caroline go after 99days although I was worried about what Mud would do to Owen.
I applauded Caroline when she decided to hunt for Mud. When she found him and discovered his second life, his son and wife it was so hard for her to chose what was the right thing to do. When Caroline and Owen cuff Mud to the bed and make him answer questions honestly and Owen beats Mud but then they get him help and injustice is served and Owen and Caroline get the help they need. Very good read.
This book is a bit different than what I tend to read, but, boy, I’m glad I did! What an intense, emotional roller-coaster ride. The book is set up to alternate between Caroline’s 99 days in captivity and the 350 days after she was released. The time jumps are logically done, making them easy to follow. Some passages are quite intense and difficult to read, but they do have a purpose. Caroline is a likeable heroine, and I love how she is portrayed as a fighter vs. a victim. Owen is definitely a star, as well. While there are some editing errors, this is still a highly engaging book that kept me turning the pages to read “just one more chapter.”
**Due to the subject matter (rape and kidnapping), I’d recommend this for a mature audience (18+).**
