But you'd be so wrong on so many different levels I cannot even name them for you.
This game is phenomenal. A beautifully crafted story, welded together with unique characters. Upon seeing it for the first time I wasn't sure what I was to expect. But I was so wonderfully surprised by all the twists and turns and puzzles and shocks and the absolute BEAUTY of what the story turned into from beginning to end.
Every playthrough there is information to be unlocked; pushing you deeper into the story and its characters. The graphics seem simple but the occasional 3D sequences are wonderful and yet eerie. The music is beautiful and jarring when appropriate. Every second spent reading was enjoyable. It was like reading a beautiful book but with music and pictures to follow along. I was completely immersed in the world. I never felt so close to the characters in a book and so connected with what was happening. I was scared, I was heartbroken, I was joyous. I have never been so emotionally haunted by a game before.
This game will follow me through my days and for the rest of my life. Top five. Usually I don't like "scary" games but just the tone and the delivery made me scared at the slightest revelations on screen even if something wasn't actually "visually" happening. The writing was astounding and engrossing. And... I don't want to spoil anything.
Please, just buy this and play this. Play it all the way through. Don't ever skip over anything. Put yourself into this game and you will not regret the experience.
I thought that the puzzles/novel games were not my type, but I started to played a game like that (too bad I don't remember it name). Then I played Virtue's Last Reward (Another game of these series). I was so pleased with that game and for me it was perfect. I was so amazed that I told to myself to buy the prequel. Then finally I played 999 and the game is not perfect, it is more than perfect (Is it a word for that?).
The story is so well written. I want to congratulate the guy that wrote it. It has one of the best stories on games that I have ever played. Maybe the best one. It is original and you get many, but many surprises each time.
The gameplay is great. The puzzles are very challenging (however, Virtu's Last Reward has more challenging puzzles). The final puzzle is my favorite.
The characters are very likable. You will love even the evil ones.
The music is great, the art it's beautiful. The characters are well designed, and the cut scenes are very touching.
So, if you love the puzzles games, you should buy this game. If you don't love the puzzles/novel games, then, you should buy it too.
The story of this game is magnificent. The puzzles are challenging and the multiple endings add replay value. A MUST buy!
Before I say anything else, note that this is a visual novel, meaning it'll have too much dialogue and focus mainly on the story, you'll be spending more time reading and following the story than actually playing, it's similar to reading a book but with puzzles inside.
That being said, even if it doesn't sound interesting to you, I highly recommend this game, at least as a new experience for you.
This game has very good story telling, although it does get boring sometimes, and you can't skip or adjust the speed of the text unless you're replaying the game to get another one of the six endings, however, rest assured as you can save the game any time you want, so you don't have to force yourself to read anymore when you want to take a break.
As for the game play, you basically solve puzzles and investigate, as the game is all about 9 people trapped in a huge ship, have to solve puzzles in order to pass through the 9 numbered doors, within 9 hours (9 hours, 9 doors, 9 persons), the puzzles are pretty smart and require too much concentration, and of course the game gives you enough hints and explains everything to you.
Also, there are six endings to this game, as in every play through you can decide on which doors you want to go through, and you have to finish the game at least twice to get the real ending, which is not an issue since the "True ending" is pretty much connected to the "Safe ending" and has different plot and puzzles.
Last but not least, the entire mystery of the game is genius, some things are left unexplained at the end, but the ending is still satisfying.
Again, I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes to experience something new.
The story truly ingenious. The puzzles are also thought provoking and just challenging enough.
