Top Customer Reviews
It looks like crappy shovel, but it held up to slicing out sections of the 20 inch snow drifts from this record breaking snow dump, the same one that collapsed the Metrodome and effectively shut down the city. It's not good for actually carrying snow, but great for digging underneath a car and moving snow away from wheels, or building a snow cave sort of thing. It has zero flexibility and is very good at carving or spiking through snow. Well worth it.
I bought this shovel to be carried in my backpack and used for backcountry snowboarding. I ended up using it for a day of work building a jump out of snow in spring conditions before actually relying on this item in an emergency situation and I am really glad I did because someone's life could have been lost if I hadn't tested it. The shovel broke where the actual shovel bit meets the handle.
I was using this product to lift pretty heavy amounts of snow. If you just need a light duty shovel this may work for you, but for me personally I would rather spend more money on a better shovel that will not break when you really need it.
The bad (and this is real bad): the handle is very uncomfortable, and impedes its usefulness as a tool.
Tools need to have comfortable handles that allow you to control them and, in this case, provide the
muscle and leverage needed to get the job done. A shovel of this size and design usually has a "loop"
handle, so that you can wrap your fingers and thumb around it without splaying out your fingers.
And since you very likely would want to wear thick gloves when you are shoveling snow, the comfort
and stability of the grip would only become worse.
-Aluminum construction with detachable handle makes for a lightweight, compact shovel that is perfect for the car trunk. Metal build is vastly superior to plastic when trying to clear mixed snow and ice, and wet snow.
-Handle has two positions. Fully extended, the shovel is long enough to use for spot driveway clearing duty. In the compact position, the shovel is easy to handle around care tires and under a vehicle caught in a drift.
-PERFECT FOR KIDS. I didn't anticipate this feature when I bought it for emergency use, but when my two year old wanted to shovel the driveway with daddy last winter, I gave him the AAA Sport Utility Shovel with the handle in the compact position and he loved it. It's sufficiently lightweight for a toddler to have some serious fun.
-Value. This shovel offers great piece of mind and versatility for less than $20.
Lightweight, durable, perfect for emergency use and great for kids. I have one in both of our vehicles now, and I would highly recommend to anyone living in a predictably snowy region.
Very light-weight. Understand, though, it is SHORT, so your shoveling ergonomic mechanics will be off. You don't want to clear your entire driveway with this thing. I don't suppose it is designed to take on a trip up Mount Everest, but it works very well for my use. Which, has been to clear out around car so i can get onto the streets. I am one of those dudes who LOVE snow and eagerly get out and drive in it. Have not had the chance to use it to get out of a 'stuck in snowbank', or ' skidded-off-road-into-windroll', but I expect it will work well as long as I am not chipping away at a ton of mixed and frozen sludge.
The edge will 'sharpen' a bit as you use it against pavement or cement, but that is actually a good thing, as it will cut closer and cleaner as you shovel - just need to beware when you store it, the edge may be sharp enough to scratch / score / damage your trunk or wherever you store it.
