Edit 2/15/2022:Dongle is still working as expected. I've been using it with the new Coolwalk interface for a few months now at this point. There aren't many differences between the forced widescreen mode (by manipulating the DPI with this dongle) and the native resolution. I've attached a new screen so you can compare it with before the Coolwalk UI update. Even though the elements are still a little smaller at the higher DPI than native, I still prefer it because the map and music apps can be swapped – at the native resolution you can't usually have the map on the smaller right window. It also has a cool animation when you swap back and forth between the 2 apps (but it's still a little janky). Besides that there isn't really much new to report. I also prefer that this keeps the apps rail on the left side (if you're at native resolution and still want the apps on the left rail, keep the apps preview shortcuts off – I forget the option's actual name at the moment).Edit 9/20/2022:The solution for the BT calling issue seems to be enabling dongle mode - calls are coming through as clear as they should now.To change the DPI (to enable the dual pane, widescreen view) you have to disable passthrough mode, and a picture of it in action is attached. Buttons and UI elements become smaller. And to keep it looking as sharp as possible I went the the highest number possible at this size, which turned out to be 116. Only time will tell how this compares to the native "CoolWalk" update that's still in the works.I've also changed phones since the initial review and wireless works fine here, but oddly I need to jump through hoops to connect to the car with native wireless (it's a Samsung phone).So far, AAWireless still meets my expectations.Original review:I'd been on the fence on buying one of these for a really long time. I have native wireless AA in another car and knowing I'll still have to plug in the phone on long trips... First world problems. More on that later.But that's beside the point. This seemed like a fun new toy to play with, and I saw it was available on Amazon so I finally caved. The fact that any of these dongles sell out fast also forced my hand. It arrived earlier than expected, and it's smaller than I imagined.I installed the app on my phone and plugged it into my car (I have one of the first gen Pioneer NEX units with AA built in).I followed the directions on screen since the app recognized it right away. It eventually hung at the end of setup with the blinking green light, but the troubleshooter took care of that easily. This is the reason I knocked off a star - it wasn't completely seamless setup but it's good enough to correct itself. Then it wanted a firmware update (mine shipped with 1.12.0 with a build date of June 2022).I used it briefly and it works really well. Almost as good as native. My first impression is that the colors looked slightly washed out, and the picture is maybe slightly more grainy. Note: I didn't jump back to wired to verify, though.Responsiveness is good, connection times are just as fast as native wireless, and sound seems just the same as wired. I haven't tested calls though. As this isn't a car built with AA, I don't know if calls are handled the same way.Overall this is a recommended buy. I've heard of some dongles failing over time, and if that ever happens I'll have to update this review.The main reason I wanted this was to change the DPI to try to force the widescreen UI, but alas the option was grayed out for me. I'll have to do some more digging to see if my setup supports it. I'm also curious if I can drop it into a different car without having to set everything up again.A final note: your phone WILL GET HOT on long trips (been using AA since 2015 with the Nexus 5, so it's not a new phenomenon). This is not because of the dongle but because of AA. Living in a hot climate and wireless charging will also exasperate the matter. But now that you're wireless, fast charging will also bake your phone even more. For these reasons, the slower charging weird setup might still be the best after all... unless you're drives are 20 mins or less. Then this dongle is really handy. Did I mention this is a dongle?
