AAXA Technologies Inc was founded in 2008 as a developer and manufacturer of a new class of projector known as 'micro' projectors and 'pico' projectors. AAXA’s core technology is based on small LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) and DLP (Digital Light Processing) imagers mated to LED (light emitting diode) and Laser light-sources that makes micro projectors and pico sized projectors possible. In 2010 AAXA launched one of the world’s first laser pico projector and today remains one of the leader in mini-projector technology. AAXA holds several patents in optical and LCoS designs and manufactures the majority of its products in China, with core technological development occurring in both the Silicon Valley, California and China.

1. Keystone correction feature doesn't work, But remote has button for the function. - I haven't tried this yet but others have said the same, fine, what? 1/2 point off?
2. IR remote / receiver not sensitive and pretty hard to find the keys at dark. - Mine works just fine and there are way fewer buttons here than on some other remotes, not hard to memorize button locations. Not a detriment, just a lack of patience on your part.
3. Blue Tint - Unable to correct with custom RGB values. - Have not had this issue with my unit so maybe yours was having an issue?
4. Doesnt play H.264 mp4 video files. - DOES play H.264 mp4 video files. Even plays from inside folders though the instructions say it doesn't support either of these. Again, lack of patience on your part, probably read the box instead of actually trying it.
5. Image soft at edges. - Have not noticed this yet but I haven't taken it to 80" yet.
6. Noisy fan. - This one is an issue... If set to bright, on standard the fan still runs but even its built in speaker is louder than the fan, on eco it's not a problem at all.
7. Focus scroll wheel - need to be scrolled all the way down just for minor correction. - Have not had to turn this on mine yet.
So overall I'd say 4.5 stars instead of one. Save $50 and get this projector, just make sure you use the charge cable that comes with it and a 5v 2.5A power adapter for the "boost" mode for continuous operation past what the battery would normally allow. Also make sure to get a HDMI to mini HDMI adapter to be able to connect all HDMI devices to this little guy.
I don't work for Aaxa and I paid full price of $155 for this projector, and have dealt with several other projectors in the past, pico projectors, portable sd projectors, and ceiling mounted sd, hd, and 3d projectors as well. This thing is actually very good for a pico, not the brightest in the world but it's not meant to be. All projectors have an issue or two, just pick what works best for you and what you are wanting to use it for.
The bottom line is that this is a great little projector for taking camping or allowing kids to project onto the ceiling.
The projector cannot charge the battery and be used at the same time when using an external power source. It needs to be 2.5 amps or greater, otherwise it will consume some battery power. There is a new model out (Pico 2) that has a few more features and brighter lumens, but, surprisingly, it is lower resolution, so I would not recommend it.
Update (7-29-17): I've used the projector for over a week and have made some observations. A previous reviewer said that the projector would not work with an external power bank without shutting off. I ran the fully charged projector connected to a 20,000 mah power bank running a two hour long movie. The movie ran without the projector ever shutting off, so it should be good for camping. My power bank has two USB outputs: 2.1 amps and 2.4 amps. I used the 2.4 amp USB. Even though it is slightly less than the required 2.5 amp output, my projector battery was fully charged within 10 minutes.
There is one negative I have found so far that needs to be addressed: while watching movies from a micro sd card, the audio would gradually go out of sync with the video so that after an hour or so this flaw becomes very distracting. I tried this with several movies with the same result. If I put the same micro sd card in a tablet and play the movies, the audio is always in sync with the video to the very end. I suspect a bug with the included media player which can be fixed with a firmware update. I haven't tried a movie from the USB port to see if it too goes out of sync. I did watch a Netflix movie and it stayed in sync the entire time. So, I'm tempted to subtract one star, but will wait until I see how AAXA responds.
Update (7-30-17): I put a movie on a USB thumb drive and still had the audio fall out of sync over the course of the 2-hour movie length. These movies all play fine on a computer or a tablet from the micro sd-card. I suspect that the media player can only handle an unspecified bit rate. It would be nice if AAXA could either update their media player to current standards or provide detailed information as to what the media player can handle. This is a major issue for me because I purchased this projector because it had a built-in media player, but if it can't handle most MP4 encoded video files without the audio falling out of sync, it's not worth keeping. If you are using it with something plugged into the hdmi port, then you're probably fine.
Update (7-31-17): AAXA got back with me. Tech support said that the media player isn't completely compatible with MP4 video files. He said the MP4 files should be converted to AVI files for compatibility. I was concerned because in my experience AVI files are much larger, but I went ahead and converted it to AVI making sure that the bit rate stayed about the same, in this case about 3,000. Surprisingly, the AVI file was about the same size as the MP4 file. The quality looked about as good as the original file and the audio stayed perfectly in sync with the video. I did find some MP4 files that would stay in sync and the only thing I can see that might allow this is the bit rate was around 1,500 or less. Another solution would be to get a media player. Most media players will play just about any media files. Well-reviewed media players can be purchased for under $50. So, if you plan on going camping and only want to rely on the internal battery or plugged into a battery bank, I would suggest converting your mp4s to AVI files because they will work well. Just remember to increase the video bit rate to at least the same bit rate as the original file. You can determine the bit rate by right clicking the file, going to properties, and then details. Again, the only reason I have even made this much effort with this projector is because it is the best bang for the buck. You won't find another true 720p projector in this price range.
Top reviews from other countries
- tiny and it actually does work.
- price - that's why I gave it 5 stars despite the cons below.
- tested with PC and Chromecast, both fine.
- no way to see charge level of the battery.
- the focus adjustment is flimsy and difficult to set right.
- picture gets blurred in corners over 40 inches or so. Fine for movies, not so much for PC screens or presentations.
- not too bright, but understandable given the size.
- fan bit noisy but in ECO OK
- cannot use I/O ports apart from micro-SD if want to throw picture on the ceiling - I/O should be placed on sides instead.
- won't display subtitles from SD/USB.
- always starts in Bright mode, it should remember the last used mode.
-Very good size, small enough to carry around, big enough that i do not worry about heat.
-Image quality is great, i have seen a few movies and series in that, never on a good surface and it still was very decent.
-Remote control makes it easy to use wherever you are.
-Good variety for input options (includes headphones jack, AV, mini Hdmi in, accepts sd cards and usb in such a form factor.)
-Price (somewhat). For a 720p PORTABLE projector the price is king. If you want something stable you can do better.
-Remote control is needed to operate, big disadvantage in case it breaks/gets lost.
-Speaker (but what portable projector has a good speaker?)
-No keystone adjustment
-Battery life is quite limited.
Like i said in the beginning i wanted something with good quality and did not really care about the rest of the features, if you do this is not yet the product for you, but if you are like me this is an amazing little thing to have. Very good quality for the price and the convenience of it being portable.
Lastly i would like to address some issues other people seem to be having in the comments. This projector CAN be charged while being used but it needs a charged with high amp rating. People just decided to give low rating on something that the manufacturers themselves warned both on their website and on the leaflet of the product.
To sum up i love this product because i chose it based on my wants and needs and for anyone who knows and understands its shortcomings but does not care, trust me and get it.
Also hear in mind the projector does not support external drives larger than 16gb and they must be formatted to fat32.
Finally the USB port does not supply enough power for a hard drive and the only way to control the projector is via the remote so make sure you don't lose it.
If you can deal with the limitations it's a fantastic little projector in a surprisingly small package.
