The M5's color is also greatly improved over the P300, which had a disgusting red tint over the entire image that couldn't be removed even with every adjustment made. It's not as good as my Macbook Retina display, but it compares well to the pre-retina Macbook displays. I wish there were more presets to save color settings to—currently the M5 only has one user definable custom setting, which means I need to manually change picture settings for different lighting situations.
The plastic housing is fine, but the plastic buttons on top are incredibly soft. When pressed, they sink a bit before registering the input. The button presses don't register half the time either because the processor is slow or because the buttons themselves are poorly designed. The buttons on the remote feel equally soft, but they are actually more consistently responsive than the buttons on the projector.
The software and processor could use a lot of improvement as well. If you're trying to adjust keystone or color settings during playback, it lags several seconds before responding. Playback of bigger files from USB sometimes take 10-15 seconds to start. One improvement over the P300 is that the interface now allows you to see the video on screen while you adjust color/brightness/contrast etc.
Battery life is ok. You won't get through a feature, but you'll get through an episode of Law and Order. If you have a Chromecast, you can plug it right into the HDMI, but the on-board USB port won't have enough power for the it—you'll have to plug the Chromecast in to the wall adapter.
Bottom line: the M5 is the best portable projector in this price range with huge improvements over the P300, but know that there are some annoying design decisions you'll have to live with.
The projector is very easy to use with basic operating system to control the built-in media player, control different sources and finally settings menu. The built-in media player can be used with USB flash drives or microSD storage devices and must be formatted to FAT32. I was able to play common file types such as JPG, AVI, MP4, etc without any issues. The even got huge 3-4GB MKV files to work however there is some lag and may freeze the controls if the files too large (understandable).
The M5 projector also features a wide variety of inputs/outputs but you'll most likely be using the HDMI and audio 3.5mm output the most. I choose to go with the simple operating system instead of an Android OS based projector because i planned on connecting either Chromecast to cast video streaming apps from my iPhone and connect other HDMI devices for occasional use.
Overall I think this is a great reliable projector with great brightness for most applications, all packed into a small/portable size. Highly recommended.
If I had to list any cons, the carrying case feels a little cheap and the handle started to tear already. Not sure if this is a one off thing but i'll be reaching out to them asking for a replacement. Either way, most projectors don't come with a carrying case and I planned on using a larger universal bag to carry my other electronics as well.
This little Projector is perfect for my needs. I just received it and turned it on. Perfect - The brightness is perfect for small teaching situations and smaller conference rooms. Great value for the price.
