Previously I'd purchased the one with the favorable review from Consumer Reports. That pedometer may have been more accurate than this one in terms of counting steps, but not having a cover, the buttons kept getting pushed accidentally and resetting making the whole program kind of annoying. Then the brittle plastic broke where you attach it to your pants and I ended up throwing it away.
This one is very sturdy and easy to use. The numbers are large and clear. And the cover keeps the buttons from getting pushed inadvertantly. Works for me!
Who really cares if you are getting a completely accurate step count. The point is just to walk more and I'm doing that.
The pedometer is also very easy to set and use.
It makes a very loud clicking noise when walking and came with a new battery as of course the old one from 5 plus years ago was dead.
I am disappointed in Amazon's use of very old inventory--at the very least it should cost a lot less.
Having fallen in love with a free pedometer given to me at a trade show, I was distraught when I lost it at Disney World. Its replacement had the following requirements:
1. It must not fall off easily.
2. It must be discrete (I wear it to work and it must blend in with my business attire).
3. It must be accurate.
The AE1640M4 meets those requirements at a good price.
It has a very firm clasp that can even be difficult to take off at times (a good thing). It comes with a loop of string and clip that can be clipped elsewhere on one's clothing to keep it attached should it slip off of its primary mount (my belt, for example).
It has a plain black exterior that is very discrete. So much so that no one has noticed it or asked me what it is (this did happen with my previous pedometer).
I have found it to be within 1% accurate, and has an interesting feature whereby it does not record steps until at least 5 have been taken. This prevents random movements from being counted as steps.
This is a good, simple pedometer that is easy to use. Recommended.
