Perfect for a 2007 Suzuki XL7 - Tips

Great for a 2007 Suzuki XL7 that was running rough while displaying an EVAP related fault code and check engine light on. Fairly simple install (if I can do it, you certainly can as I am no mechanic). Remove Engine cover (remove Oil Cap and pop out sides). Part is toward the back of the engine (left hand side). Disconnect electric (from old part) by pushing down on the small tab and pulling. Larger connection (single side connector for the hose) by sliding across tab and pulling. Third connector (next to electric, can be a pain) best to leave for last. I suggest you leave old bracket in place, disconnect the first two mentioned above and slide the old part off the bracket. Once off, disconnect the third connector (easier to deal with). Slide the new part in (first remove the bracket it comes with / slide it off the part). Reconnect all three and done! Vehicle runs a lot smoother an appears to (as of now) quote a much better gas mileage. Drove the vehicle for 30 miles. Engine light and code are gone. May be too soon for EVAP test but may update post as needed. Regardless, you can feel the difference and it will cost you very little to test -try this solution. Low cost and quick Amazon delivery!

Fixes Hard Starting After Fill Up

Researched on-line the cause of hard starting after filling my 2008 Cadillac with gas. Everything pointed to a worn out vapor canister purge valve as the cause. At my local auto parts store it was twice the price as Amazon so guess what? I bought it at Amazon. Installation took me over an hour just because I am an amateur mechanic. After I got it installed I expected an “Instant Fix”, but the car took a bunch of cranking just like before. I finally got it started and drove it a while. It just needed to be run for a bit. Went to the gas station, put gas in, and instant starting after putting gas in. No problems since! A wonderful $20 fix.
NOTE: Don’t add extra gas after the gas pump clicks off. This helps to cause the problem over time I found out.

This part is made by Bosch, and the part number stamped on it is the GM PN 12611801. The box is stamped with both the aforementioned GM PN and AC Delco PN 214-1685. Through what is apparently an omission in AC Delco's online catalog, and Amazon's application guidance, this part is not listed as being applicable to the 2006 Buick Lacrosse CXS (3.6 V6, VIN 7). However, it worked fine for that application. The original part it replaced was made by Bosch and marked with GM PN 12591334. If you look at other brands of replacement vapor purge solenoids, such as Dorman, you'll see that they replace both GM 12611801 and 12591334. Therefore, there does not appear to be any meaningful difference between those two, and they appear to be physically identical. Because this is a quality part at a superior price, I recommend it highly. It took care of the P0496 code on the Lacrosse CXS, and it also corrected the problem of hard starting after filling the tank with fuel. On the 3.6L V6, the solenoid is easily accessible on the back of the intake plenum. I recommend the youtube video for replacing Fuel Purge Vent Valve on the 2003-10 2.6L Cadillac CTS. The vacuum line connections come off by depressing a tiny tab that then slides to the opposite end of it's little slot, releasing the connector.

The check-engine light on my 2007 GMC Acadia came on, and after checking the codes, it was determined to be 1 of 3 issues. First I replaced the gas cap - the simplest and least expensive. I reset the codes and drove for a while, but the check-engine light cam on again. The 2nd option is this "Purge Valve". It took a little bit of hunting for it, but it is a very easy replacement.
The plastic engine cover comes off, then some of the 'insulating carpet' on the top rear of the engine block has to be pulled back. I removed the baffled air-hose that connects the air filter to the engine (a couple of hose clamps) - so I could get better access.
There is 1 bolt holding this module on. I removed the bolt, then the TOP hose at the valve cover. Then the bottom connector comes off this module, then the module can be slid out the side to make the 2nd connector easy to undo.
The new module clicks back onto the hose and then can be slid back into place, and reconnected to the TOP of the valve cover. the lower hose clicks back on, then the single mounting bolt. Replace the air-hose and start the car.
Once you verify it is running correctly, clear the codes and finish replacing the plastic cover over the engine block.

It sounds like a lot of steps, but everything is accessible from the top, and I was done within about 15-20 minutes.

2008 Suzuki XL-7 had issues starting after refueling. Swapped out the old unit for this new one - took all of 5 minutes (literally). It fixed the issues with the poor starting effort, which appears to be very common for this vehicle and others equipped with the 3.5L V-6 GM engine. Probably should get one to keep as a standby, as it sounds like the system has a major design flaw allowing gas to get into the valve and damage it. There's probably another fix, such as putting a filter inline to hold any gas, but I haven't seen that as yet.

Ordered this part to fix the P0496 error on my 2008 Acadia. I was having intermittent problems with the traction control system shutting off. About a week after that started I got gas and my car failed to start. I cranked it 5 times before it finally started an I was able to get home. The check engine light was on the whole time and after I shut it off at home the car would not start again. I order this part and installed very easily with the help of a video I found on an Acadia forum. After installed, the car did not start immediately, I had to jump start it. Since then all has been well with no issues, it is the original battery so I am thinking I may just need a new one (I do not think that the failure to start had anything to do with the error). I cleared the code using a scanner, so there was no need for me to disconnect the battery to clear it.
