Read / Write
41.52 / 18.41 (MB/s)
The DashDrive's READ performance slows down significantly when inserted in USB 2.0 Port, but WRITE speeds remain about the same:
Read / Write
25.97 / 17.32 (MB/s)
The numbers held up when I copied over 2GB of JPGs to DashDrive.
The housing is all plastic, so it's not as sturdy as the extruded aluminum models out there. On the other hand, it's not nearly as expensive either. The capless design is a plus (no caps to lose). On the negative side, the plastic bar provided for a keyring is rather thin and delicate-looking.
Bottom line for me is that the ADATA DashDrive UV128/16GB provides a good amount of storage, in a convenient capless package, that is reasonably fast, for not a lot of money.
If you need a faster (but more expensive) flash drive, take a look at the Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0.
I have an ADATA SSD that has served me well for years as a boot drive for my Linux system which was a reason I trusted this product. I am surprised they could put out a product of such low quality as these.
So, I wasted a few bucks. Not worth the effort to return.
Recommendation: Do not buy. Mine are in the trash.
It does not get 'Hot' like some other brands I have read reviews on. Design has this 'flip button' I don't like it, I must hold it to make sure it does not 'retract' when I plug it in. This is bad when you have to 'reach behind or around your device' to plug it in. The space to 'thread' a cord or keyring holder into the drive is Not large enough, I had to use thin speaker wire as a paper clip was too thick.
I use it as a portable OS, as live ISO to troubleshoot with, and to use on low hardware machines on the go.
Its Write speed on my android box is ~10 MB/s (80 Mbps), its Write speed on my Windows 3.0 Port is 22 MB/s. ***So for reference copying a 2Gig Linux Mint Cinnamon ISO on my USB 3.0 port took slightly over 2 minutes. and on USB 2.0 took twice as long.
I'm OK with that, but if you are looking to use some of this storage as 'swap' and have a 3.0 port you might be fine. Otherwise better just use Mint Xfce desktop or LXLE as 2.0 speeds from this card are just about as fast as a 5200RPM HDD.
Crystal disk synthetic benchmark tests show it reading at 75 megabytes per second and writing to the drive at 20 mb/s
Real world testing copying a massive vmware disk file to the drive shows exactly 18 mb/sec and moving data back off the drive onto my SSD in my laptop shows an average of 70 mb/s
Laptop has an intel usb3.0 chipset and kingston hyperX 250gig ssd.
Obviously it's not going to win any speed tests with some of the faster usb 3.0 drives but for 9 bucks and 16 gigs, for general use, it's a good buy... just don't drop it. Feels very flimsy.
For $7 more dollars though, I would STRONGLY recommend getting the Patriot supersonic 16 gig model PEF16GSBUSB. I also have this and it has a sustained 88.9 meg per second read and 27 meg/sec write speed in real world data transfer testing, has a nice lanyard attachment point, has a durable rubber shell and an LED activity light.
