Product Description

ADATA meets the growing demand for digital storage devices! Taking the microSD to the next level, ADATA is pleased to introduce the microSDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity), whose new interface enables faster transfer rates. The ADATA microSDHC Class 4 provides cellular phones even more memory storage for multimedia, business and personal data. Combined with this Micro SDHC card, ADATA offers an ultra-compact card reader to aid in the transfer of microSD/microSDHC memory card data at high speed. The microReader Ver.3 has a compact and lightweight body, with a built-in USB connector. Cumbersome USB cables are eliminated, and the reader can be directly used on all USB equipped desktop and notebook computers. The reader is built with a handy one-push card ejection design, so that the card can be quickly and easily extracted from the reader. A bright LED indicator shines when the data transfer function is active. Due to its ultra-compact size, the microReader can be plugged into the USB slot of a notebook PC at all times, without blocking the neighboring slots or getting in the way when the computer is stowed in a bag.

I've moved into the smartphone world; the ones I've been with have MicroSD expansion slots. Prices have come down (as always, especially for the "smaller" models), speeds up, reliability .... ummm ... well, it turns out that the main problem is with readers, the adapters that you use to get them on your computer. I love the idea of a barely-even-noticable dinkle (my word for tiny dongle) in a USB slot, with the microSD inserted literally into the plug itself. Various other factors can make or break it: Is it nice-looking? Does it stay together? Is there an activity indicator (what we call a "light")? Sharp edges? Conspicuousity? And as it turns out, the main determiner is: does it work? Every time/All the time? It turns out reliability is a big problem.

I got an ADATA reader by itself, and it didn't work at all. Of course I tried various microSDs, which worked in other adapters, and the USB ports were fine, so there wasn't any question: it was DITW (Dead In The Water). But then I got this combo, and it's been working without flaw! I know it's Class 4 but I'm not using it for caching, so it's fine. The look is great, the plastic stays on the metal (!), the top stays on when transporting, the light is a nice blue. Maybe it's too strong; why advertise there is a little data storage device on your computer...

Overall I'm very happy!

I first purchased this item a little over a year ago, and have since purchased several more, because they not only work great as a USB2 MicroSDHC reader/writer, but are also quite handy as tiny general purpose USB2 thumb drives.

As a card reader, I have used the ADATA Micro SDHC reader both with its included 16 Gig SDHC class 4 card, and with several other SDHC cards from my Android Tablets and other portable devices, and the ADATA reader has always worked reliably for me, allowing me to quickly access and update the files on any of these cards without any problems.

Since the MicroSDHC card actually fits up inside the USB connector, this thing is TINY (only protrudes about 1/4 inch from the PC) - and by simply leaving a high capacity SDHC card installed semi-permanently in the device, the ADATA reader is also really useful as a tiny high capacity USB2 thumb drive (16GB with the included card, 32 GB with a larger MicroSDHC card)

I use one of my ADATA USB2 readers as a small bootable USB2 thumb drive to run a portable USB bootable version of Knoppix Linux (with a persistence file), which gives me a handy portable Linux desktop that I can easily move around from computer to computer.

In my past experence, not all USB thumb drive devices can be used reliably as a USB boot drive even though they may work fine as thumb drives to read and write data files, but this ADATA reader works GREAT as a bootable USB2 drive on every PC I have ever tried it on (more than a dozen different PCs) with no boot problems whatsoever.
