Rhyming text accompanies friendly, bright illustrations that show the boy acting out and generally having difficulty interacting with others. Soon, worried-looking parents take the child to the doctor's office, where he is diagnosed with ADHD and reassured that lots of folks have it—likely the boy's father and uncle Gene as well as artists, scientists, and more. Steps on how to manage ADHD (keeping lists on the refrigerator, watching less television, and meeting with counselors and teachers) are woven into the story. The final step is taking medicine. By the end, the young protagonist is coloring, reading, and playing soccer with friends (some resembling the same kids who earlier snubbed him). This is an overly sweet look at ADHD; while intended for primary-age children, it will most likely be appreciated by parents looking to comfort their children. This book uses rhyming verse to show what everyday life is like for a kid with ADHD before being diagnosed and then as he, his parents, teacher and doctor try different supports to help him.

I like that it shows them trying different ways to help him, like making a plan for the day, using lists and talking about his feelings. It also shows them going back to the doctor asking for more help in the form of medication. They show it's a big decision, but not preachy in a way. It was just matter of fact.

My 6 year old loves this book. He identifies with character and loves reading about a kid who has the same everyday struggles and accommodations that he does. I definitely recommend it to any family who has a member (or 2) with ADHD.
