I had to know what was coming next, as frightening as I knew it would be. I ended reading all three books because I was hooked by the end of book 1. I liked the fact that it wasn’t the usual zombie apocalypse plot. Additionally, this author has the ability to write In a way that you can visualize the story. I have found this to be true with everything I have read from this author. To help the reader form those mental images is the mark of a good writer.

All I can say is Wow,this is 5star 🌟reading,the stuff that happens in this book isn't far from the truth of what goes on in our country even the world when it comes to virus containment and that sort of thing,terrifying truths,the government hide from us right under our noses,a very fast paced violent zombie serial series,wrote like a TV show with episodes instead of chapters,just a little bit slow at first but after about 3 episodes it goes all to hell in a terrifying wonderful reading experience,I couldn't stop reading,now on to the next book,Any fan of zombie fiction will love this book

Terrifying and Hilarious

This book takes place in Toronto, Ontario in the bowels of the highest level bio-engineering and virology building in the country. We follow a special squadron of police who are responding to a threat from inside. It's a gripping start to the series and you'll find yourself breathing more shallow and sweating along with the main character. It's not an extremely long book, but after reading it I can say that it was the perfect length. There were no dull spots and it was very well put together. As with all things Chute, look for some well-placed humour to keep a smile on your face.

This book explores what evils can be developed in the name of progress. One man's insight as he does his job as a law enforcement agent, realizing he has helped release a horrible creation. It turns humans into zombies that are self aware but unable to stop. He also comes to terms with choices he made in his life that led him to this exact moment. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the entire series

Ok story. Way too much reminiscing, I wanted to get into this story, not hear every story for everything Daniel thought or the reason things happened to him. I hope the next book is better. UPDATE: After reading all 3 books I LOVED THE STORY, I changed my original 3 stars to 5. Scary because it could happen, but a great series.

I won't go into the plot except to say it involves a SWAT style team who are sent in to deal with a security breach in a secret lab.
As the story progresses you get to know the characters more and the reasoning behind the team, the lab and what really happened.

I have not generally been a fan of zombie stories. However, RC Chute is a different sort of zombie novelist. Instead of rising from the dead, his zombies are the result of scientific developments gone awry (or instigated by someone whose mind has gone awry) that seem just the tiniest bit beyond our current technology. The reader does not have to choose to make a huge leap in suspending disbelief. It feels like it could happen.

Among the many ways Chute reveals himself to be an excellent writer is in the way he introduces and develops his characters. They all seem to have distinctive and well-developed personalities, or at least developed enough for the reader to feel "something" about them, whether it is affection, disgust or ambivalence. And somewhere along the way, you may find that affection may turn to disgust, or vice versa.

Chute's stories seem to have everything and more: for the classic zombie lover, there's plenty of blood and death. For the reader who needs some relief from the unrelenting breakdown of society, you'll find surprising flashes of humour, that somehow seem not at all inappropriate. And along the way, you'll be prompted to think about human existence, relationships and personal autonomy. Buy this book. Read it. Then buy Vol. 2, Purgatory. Read it, too. Finally, buy Vol. 3, Paradise. Read it. Then, keep on reading his books because they are great.

Note: I have had the distinct pleasure of "beta-reading" this and the other two volumes in the AFTER Life series. I do not get paid for this role except for the joy of reading good stories. This 5-star review is solely because of the quality of Robert Chazz Chute's writing.
