I have really fine, no body, dry hair that has various textures all over--some really curly but fuzzy, some with almost no curl. And all I want is defined, consistant curls with body, without any crunchy or sticky feeling. Re:coil is a great product to get there!
I had read a bunch of reviews and they were somewhat mixed, but I thought I'd give it a try. You need VERY little product, and you run it through your hair right after a shower when it's still sopping wet. Then I put it in one of those absorbant towels for a few minutes and then shake my head upside down and let my hair air dry. When it's dry then I mess with it a little (scrunch upside down). Voila! Perfect ringlets! Everyone's been noticing, and the best part is that I actually have been spending a lot less time on my hair (with fewer products and better results) than ever.
I hate some Amazon reviews when it's clear that the reviewer just bought the product but hasn't started to actually use it yet--so I waited for 2 weeks before posting this. It is worth the money.
One caveat--I don't think this prodcut gives much if any hold, so if you need that (my hair's fine enough that it just sets--also it's really dry where I live) you might need to follow this with something light. On a few days I've put a tiny amount of John Masters Shine On on the ends of my hair for extra definition.
But then I switched hairdressers and that one used the Re:coil line. She used AG FAST FOOD leave-in condish and then THIS and I had TERRIFIC non-frizzy curls after part-diffusing by stylist and the rest drying in the car on the way home.
I experimented on my own and got better results than even the stylist. I will say this does it's best work OVER a leave-in condish (I've used AG's, Curl Junkie, Abba Pure Gentle, and they all have worked fine). You can put it on very wet hair for bigger clumps, scrunching it in upside down.. You can rake it in or Denman brush it in then scrunch for smaller clumps and more volume. You can diffuse/Pixie-Curl diffuse for faster drying and tighter coils (Pixie-curling) or more volume (rougher diffusing).
However you prefer to use it for results, it works well.
It's a thick creme (nearly a paste) that I rub in my palms to distribute on hand, then rake and scrunch in (or just scrunch if I'm going for bigger clumps). It absorbs with scrunching and you'll see coils springing up nicer.
In my experimentation, I found for late spring moist warmth and deep summer hellish humidity, using the Leave-in/RE:coil/ medium-to-firm hold gel is the perfect trifecta for frizz-free and coily curls that withstand some wind (I tested it once at the beach). Medium gel worked perfectly in spring. It works well in summer, too, with a very light addition of firmer gel on top (canopy ). Or just use firm hold gel on top, whichever is your fave.Read more ›
LONG STORY: My hair has a wave pattern (2A) to it that will curl nicely (2B/2C) under the right conditions (humid), but all other times it's just limp, frizzy & flat. Several products I've tried lately haven't given me the results I was hoping for. I read online about AG Re:Coil over a couple of yrs (when I went silicone-free) & finally took the plunge to try this, esp. considering the price here w/free S&H was really great.
My hair is a chin-length bob that bounces when freshly cut but gets stringy & ratty as it grows out btwn cuts (3-4 months) which will resist forming any curl. Right before my next 3-month haircut (when my hair won't style for anything) I scrunched a pea-size dollop into towel-dried hair (50% wet) & allowed it to mostly air-dry, finishing the roots w/a gentle blast of hot blowdryer (lowest speed) since I had to leave home in freezing weather.
I got beautiful springing, spiral, airy curls without frizz, kink or puffiness, which usually I'm only able to get when I'm lucky in more humid weather using a sticky holding gel & after a haircut. Unlike the gel, Re:Coil doesn't leave my hair crunchy or coated - just natural-feeling, light & airy. Since I don't often go to work with hair looking this good, I received a lot of compliments on my rare curls.
I just started using this product, but so far I'm really impressed. It dispenses in the hand easily yet the formula feels surprisingly stickier & thicker than expected (I thought it would be a lightweight lotion), so starting small was the right way to go.Read more ›

My hair is somewhat curly, which I like to play up. This product is good for encouraging the curl out of your hair. It "freezes" the curl in place.Published 2 days ago by Big Mar
I have never used a curl activation product before. I tried to use just this product and let my hair air dry that gave me a light wave. Read morePublished 5 days ago by Amazon Customer
Feels grimy on my hands and on my hair, dulling what little shine I have. While it doesn't make my curls crunchy, it also doesn't last very long. Read morePublished 10 days ago by S. Cox
Great product for curl control. I have naturally curly hair that likes to do its own thing - especially in the summer. Read morePublished 25 days ago by Alice L. Freas
