PRODUCT INTROCUTION:

This USB 2.0 to IDE / SATA drive adapter implements a bridge between a USB port and one SATA, ATA or ATAPI based mass storage device port.

It could turns any standard IDE or SATA drive into a convenient external drive. Easily transfer files from computer or notebook, back up files, or store large file archives on hard drives.

The Hi-Speed USB interface provides for easy installation with its Plug and Play design. The adapter supports all existing IDE/ATAPI devices such as a CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM and 2.5 and 3.5 IDE and SATA hard drives.

DEVICE INSTALLATION:

Hardware Install:
1. Comfirm device is under master mode.
2. Connect SATA/IDE connector to SATA/IDE device.
3. Connect AC power to SATA/IDE device.
4. Connect cable to USB port of computer.

Driver Install:
1. Window98: Insert Driver CD to CDROM and run X:\win98\setup.exe before you insert the cable to your computer.
2. Windows2000/me/XP: You don't need to install any driver.
3. Mac 8.6 or higher: Copy Fene USB SATA/IDE_05E3_0702. sit to desk to desk to pand double click it to get driver file. Then copy the driver file to [System Folder][Extensions]. After that, connect cable to computer and reboot the system.

Works great. Easy plug-and-play on Windows 7. Allowed me to spin up an 11 yr old IDE drive to copy files. Not sure how durable the IDE connector is, or how robust the circuitry might be, but this was a purchase made specifically for a single rescue mission. If I happen to need it again in the future, then great.

A great tool for connecting hard drives of many connection formats and access data on those old drives you have laying around. I used the AGPtek adapter to recover data from laptop and desktop hard drives from some of my old computer systems.

Pros:
- Easy to use
- Supports PATA, SATA, and IDE drive connections
- Includes a power connector for different drive types

Cons
- Construction of the connectors seems a bit cheap

No papers at all or instructions.
But it's a simple no brainer item.
Easy to hook up and worked great.
Must have and for 10 bucks it's much cheaper
than some of the other choices.

Didn't work. I tried this on several different PATA drives and not one single one was recognizable on Linux or OSX. I was unable to use this to inspect these old drives for data before I finally destroyed them.

The drives would spin up and you could hear them initialising the heads, but not one single drive was readable over the USB Bus on my computers. Disappointing.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT FOR USE WITH 3.5 INCH IDE DRIVES!. I used the included power adapter and it immediately fried my hard drive. There was a pop and a puff of smoke, and the hard drive would not spin up even with a real power supply. It works fine with SATA drives, and I can't say anything about 2.5 inch IDE drives. Also it does not support PATA drives.

I bought this because my old laptop decided that it didn't want to deal with it's charging port anymore and was therefore a brick when the battery died. I hadn't backed up my data in I don't know how long and I needed a current copy of everything on my hard drive. This product allowed me to plug in my old hard drive (easily removable from laptop by accessing its own panel and two screws on the bottom of my machine) directly to my new computer USB port and move all my files over as if the hard drive were any other storage device. This doesn't come with instructions so you'll just have to see what plugs fit where. The setup looks ridiculous and wrong, but just keep plugging in options until it works. The build quality is subpar and there are hot glue strings and gobs of glue attached to all the wire connections, but this is (hopefully) a one-time use product and was under $12.00 and it allowed me to save my files without shelling out hundreds for a professional. I'll call this a win.
