Product Description

The Schrader AirAware TPMS Retrofit Kit is a hardwired tire pressure monitoring kit that can be installed on vehicles not equipped with original-equipment systems. This stand-alone kit includes a dash-mounted receiver display, four wheel-mounted transmitters that fit most wheel applications, and installation instructions. This retrofit kit will continually monitor tire pressure and tire temperature in all four wheels, and alert the driver with an audible warning at under-inflation of 25 percent or more. Monitoring of proper tire pressure will maintain vehicle performance and support safety, as well as improve vehicle handling, reduce braking distances, lower the risk of hydroplaning, decrease tire wear, and improve fuel efficiency.

I got one of these kits since I don't run with a spare on my 2005 Honda S2000 (this was the last year they didn't come from the factory with them). The first one I got had a defective LCD display but a replacement was over nighted to me and the replacement has so far been flawless.

**EDIT** The new display has now failed. It will report and store the pressure when you initialize the sensors but the information doesn't change after that. It will still alert if the pressure goes down so I didn't drop my rating all the way down to 1 star but I'm now out of the 30 day replacement so I can't get another replacement so it only gets 2 stars. If the display worked it could be 4-5 stars but the poor quality control of the display ruins the rating for it.

(Schrader AirAware 20256 TPMS Wireless Retrofit Kit). The actual install was a very easy 3-wire hookup (ground, constant 12 volt and switched 12 volt). If you've installed anything electrical in a car you should have no problem with this.

The first LCD display would "learn" each sensor but wouldn't display the data from them. Instead it reported 34psi and 194 degrees F. from the front left tire and 34psi and 168 degrees F. from the front right tire. The rears both had no data at all. This must be some sort of default setting because the replacement had the same numbers until I had it learn the sensors and they reported their data to it. Once that was done it worked like it should. When you first start the car it rotates thru each sensor and reports the pressure and temp of each. If anything is not right you get an alarm right away (beeps and warning lights come on).

I returned the item. Upon closer inspection, I could read the manufacture date stamp on each sensor unit. Mine were manufactured in Jan.2007. I did not want to risk installation considering the other customers' reviews for dead batteries.

This TPMS came highly recommended, unfortunately after I spent $100 getting them installed, one of the sensors indicated a dead battery. I contacted Amazon, and received a replacment kit. I first had the one sensor replaced, then two others failed from the original kit. I figured it was an old kit, on the shelf too long. There is no date on the package. I replaced all the components with the replacement kit, and all appears to be well now. Unfortunately it cost me another $100 to swap out the kit.

Its a great idea and works great up until it stops working great. I had 2 sensor fail and then the lcd unit started to not come on, now this wouldnt be a big problem except the sensors have to be installed in your wheels and the lcd unit has to be wired in, after all that and then problems arise in order to send it back to the seller you have to removed everything get new valve stems and uninstal the wiring. lucky for me I could do it at my shop, but the fact remains i now have to replace 2 sensors already? whats the problem Schrader you make these sensors for almost every car company in the US why are these so crappy? But thats the basic of the problem it gets better, Schrader doesnt have a help site or phone contact number to cover its consumer products and if they do I'm having trouble finding it. Ive emailed them and got no response of such a number or link Ive contacted amazon with no resolve and what makes it really funny, you can find listings for extra or new sensors on amazon for 40 bucks each!! really? I may be a odd ball case that rarely happens but just a warning to any of you who want to buy this and pay for the installation, if something goes wrong your paying for the removal and new stems so you can send it back. It gets 2 stars becasue it could have been a great item if someone would show support for it. Not even the manual has a contact number or email, it looks like it was printed off an office printer folded and stapled. Funny I also got untrasonic back up sensors kit from china off ebay for 15 bucks with the tone speaker free shipped that was 6 months ago and thats still working flawlessly! $150 TPMS crapped not even 2 weeks old.
