I'm using an Objective 2 headphone amp + ODAC combo to drive these even though the on-board Creative Soundblaster processor on my motherboard has enough power to drive them since they are only 62 ohms. The amp does supply more volume headroom and the DAC provides a cleaner signal since the audio conversion is done outside of the pc case so there is less electrical noise. I choose these b/c the sound quality was always given high ratings in all the reviews and forums that I've read even when being compared to other headphones that cost anywhere from $100 to $400 more.
The comfort and fit of the these headphones is equal to the Sennheiser PC 363D to me. I'm not the type to forget that have headphones on, no matter how light they are, and these are very light. I'm always aware of the strap going across my head. Fortunately, this version does not have the bumps across the bottom of the head strap that previous versions did. It was one of the biggest negatives for the K701/702 models in most of the reviews that I read.
Then my friend Zach let me try his K701s on and that sealed the deal, they fit perfectly, off to Amazon and the K702 were cheaper than the K701 at the time, so why not? Being Friday, and me being impatient I ordered Saturday delivery and got them the next day. I haven't tried watching movies with them, but I'm sure that'll be amazing, too; music on the other hand, is an entirely new experience with them versus headphones and audio equipment I've used in the past.
I hear things in songs that I've never heard before, I don't know how I've been living with my past audio gear, I'm obviously still leaving them on to break them in when not in use, but listening to Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here in FLAC format (I still can't tell a major difference between MP3 and FLAC before flames start), I just wanted the highest possible quality source, and it's just a transcendent experience to listen to.
Currently powering them with a FiiO E17 I already had, but I intend on upgrading to a desktop amp, in case you were wondering the E17 is plenty to drive these cans to levels beyond the volumes I can tolerate. The bass is unlike anything I've ever heard before, it's clean, controlled, crisp, I'm used to my old headphones where the bass would swamp the track, with the K702s, there's not as much bass, but when there is bass, there is BASS. It has all the bass I could possibly want, cleanly, clearly, without interfering or overpowering any of the track. Everything about these headphones is perfect in my opinion, and I don't know how I would go back to listening any other way.
I bought a very nicely made cable on eBay with fast shipping and have had a wonderful listening experience since.
The flat EQ characteristics have been allowing me mix recordings in imperfect listening locations. With very little fatigue. An earlier reviewer had warned of the headband being tight and causing headaches. I experienced the same problem and stretch it out, often.
