Professional Drivers - Clear Sound in the Studio and Beyond
Our K72 headphones deliver authoritative, extended low-frequency response that gives definition to kick drums and bass guitars. At the same time, the detailed yet precisely balanced high-frequency response reveals the nuance in vocals, guitars and acoustic instruments. Our generous 40mm drivers deliver high sensitivity for powerful output, plus an extended frequency response that reveals every detail. The K72s also feature a low-impedance design for compatibility with a broad range of playback devices, from professional studio gear to portable music players.
Closed-Back Design - Get Lost In Your Sound
The K72 headphones’ closed-back design eliminates audio leakage and delivers sound to your ears only. The mic won’t pick up the sound of the click track in your headphones - and you’ll always be able to mix peacefully without being distracted by outside noise. This exceptional level of audio isolation is due to a new acoustic chamber, which sits between the ear cup and the hinge that connects to the headband. Our innovative design gives you the freedom to move your head in any direction, without letting sound in or out. With the K72, you’ll enjoy a private workspace, no matter where you choose to create.
The Style that Fits All - Comfortable Listening
Getting the perfect mix sometimes means monitoring track levels for hours - and that’s when comfort really counts. We designed our unique self-adjusting headband to automatically create the perfect fit for every band member. No need to mess with delicate sizing mechanisms, which have the potential to break over time. The exposed headband design keeps the K72 headphones comfortably light, without compromising driver size. Breathable, lightweight ear pads encircle your ears, rather than putting pressure on them. And a single-sided cable gives you freedom to move. To sum it up, these high-performance headphones sound, feel and look great.
The AKG Legacy - Inspiring Greatness for Decades
For more than 65 years, AKG has helped create the iconic sounds of some of the world’s most well known recording artists, engineers and producers. Our designers and engineers have made it their life’s passion to find new ways to deliver breakthrough experiences for artists of all levels. Whether in the studio or on stage, when you wear AKG headphones, you’re seconds away from creating history.

Build quality is good for any price level, and near excellent for a $50 set of cans. The ear pads are a nicer level of vinyl, and I do not think are upgradable (I haven’t tried to peal them off). They are listed as over ear and closed back, and they really are. Even some of my more expensive headphones are just barely large enough to go over the ear. The AKGs are comfortably large enough to gently encompass your ear, and the closed back and seal keep outside noise out and your music to yourself.
Cable is long enough and comes with a screw in adapter for the 3.5mm plug so you can use it in your console or headphone amp.
The sound is very neutral, and excellent. Bass heads won’t like them, but that’s what Beats are for I guess. Easy to listen to for many hours without fatigue.
They are in the big side, and they don’t collapse for travel, so their more suited for listening at home or on very long flights.
I bought these along with some pleather/ velour hybrid brainwaves memory foam pads. Comfort is phenomenal. These replaced my $250 harmon/ kardons, and the comfort is much better. The brainwave pads are a little hard to stretch on, but when you get them on, they are very secure. The pads won't touch your ears at all, which is exactly what I wanted.
Other minuses that have been mentioned are the very long cable, which most people will find to be entering the realm of absurdity. To the poor reviewer whose cable got tangled up in the wheels of their chair until they threw the headphones at a wall in rage; thank you, you've inspired me to coil the cable and tie it up so it's effectively 1.5 metres rather than 300.
I'm not much of an audiophile, but I've been making s***ty electronic music in my bedroom for the past two years so I know a little bit about sounds and stuff. These sound really fantastic to my ear, although my only comparison points are consumer grade in ear headphones and a pair of Marley Liberate XL's so keep that in mind. The XL's are pretty good but they lean noticeably towards lower frequencies, having Marley's signature warm, bassy sound. These on the other hand are supposed to be neutral so I was worried that with my electronic tendencies there wouldn't be enough bass to satisfy me. Strangely that is not the case at all, the bass doesn't sound much quieter than my Marley's, it's punchier and a hundred times more detailed.
As a little side note, the fact that the bass didn't disappoint me lends a little weight to the man who said these had very bloated bass. I don't have a pair of headphones that I know are fully neutral so I can't say for myself whether the bass is actually bloated, however I can say that the bass never feels overpowering and doesn't smother the mids or highs, all frequencies sound incredibly detailed to me, especially the highs. In fact, the highs are a tad harsh in certain songs with particularly harsh percussion, I've mainly experienced this with trap and haven't had any issues with jazz, rock or old school hip hop,– only electronic music.
On the note of highs I haven't heard any noticeable sibilance excepting during "Heartbreak" by Yelawolf.
They aren't particularly portable, but I sort of like the purity of the fact that don't really do anything except play music. No in line mic or controls, no bells or whistles just good music, which is a pretty beautiful approach and embodied by a very beautiful pair of headphones. These look absolutely stunning, despite the fact that the materials look (and probably are, given the price) cheap. I'll definitely be keeping AKG in mind for future purchases on account of their appearanc alone.
I think that pretty much sums up this review. I like these a lot and have been primarily listening to music over the past couple of days to hear all of the details I missed before, everything sounds so much clearer and more alive than before. Would definitely recommend these cans :)
Looking for a closed-back equivalent for the noisier environment at work, I wanted the comfort of the AKG headband, with acceptable sound quality, at a much lower price point, so the K92 fit the bill.
The main surprises with these phones:
1. While the design is similar, it's not the same -- the cups are a little smaller, the pads are a little thinner, and the headband is a little springier, so it's not quite the comfort revelation that the 601 design is. It's still comfortable, though, with the same lightness I love in the 601.
2. The sound is completely different: much higher sensitivity, *much* more bass, which I consider more realistic. It's not the analytical AKG sound at all. Compared to my 601's these are also quite harsh in the mid/high vocal range, e.g. Norah Jones sounds like a different person, like she's yelling.
3. Less isolation than I had hoped for. I suspect it's a trade-off with lightness. These are better than open headphones but not a complete solution. Mainly high frequencies are blocked, but lower frequencies, including speech, are not that attenuated.

Customer service for the headphone also has been pathetic. I am in Pune and there are no service centers; I have to spend more money now to courier this product to their service center. Buying this was a mistake. Such a nice headphone but poor durability. Even the cheapest earphones last longer. I saw many people having the same issue - Right side stops working after some time, but I didn't think it would be 10 days. Now I'm literally stuck with a 5K purchase which is unusable after just 10 days.
I currently have 6 different pairs of headphones, including both cheap and moderately priced closed back headphones (Sennheiser HD202 II, Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro, and a couple of others).
What they all have in common is they block out a lot of the ambient sound.
These things are the complete opposite! I can hear EVERYTHING going on, even myself trying to type quietly right now while wearing them, every keystroke is almost as loud as if I wasn't wearing them at all.
I also own a pair of Samson open back headphones, and they are EXACTLY like these in that I can hear everything around me (annoying when the AKG site boasts 'Closed-back design
There is also what sounds like a small screw rolling arounf in the Right ear cup, which is bloody annoying!
Sound quality wise, they are as expected. quite neutral, but with great frequency response and clarity. Bass is deep and punchy, but not overpowering and boomy. Mids and highs are nice and crisp, but ever so slightly tinny.
The foam pads are a little on the firm side, adding to the lack of sound isolation as they do not form around the side of your head very well (this was not the sole cause of the lack of isolation though, as pressing the earcups firmly into my head made little difference).
I would have loved these headphones, if not for the lack of isolation and the loose part inside the right cup.
If you want a pair of cans that block out a decent amount of ambient sounds, these are NOT the cans for you.
Use them with a very basic tablet streaming Tidal and Spotify as well as a high end hifi system playing vinyl and they deliver a very decent sound stage on both.
- these are very light and comfortable even after a couple of hours of practice time.
- sound quality is very good for music.
- I have read reviews complaining of sound leakage but I have not experienced that all. Note these are not noise cancelling so look elsewhere if that is important to you.
Bad Points (minor):
- the cord length is very long which may be a benefit or nuisance depending on your requirement
- cord itself is fixed to the headphones so cannot be removed/replaced.
- combination of the above is also a faff when tidying away (No
Cable wrap/tidy included)
- no storage case
- the 6.2mm headphone jack converter is a screw type. This is secure but not helpful if you want to use it with another set of headphones.
The bad points noted above are probably a trade-off for the price of these headphones. Overall for £26 these are impressive headphones and happy with my purchase. Too early for feedback re durability.
Still, they seem pretty comfortable, I bought these to listen to music at work; they stay on my head for hours so comfort is important to me. Just a shame the sound isn't a little better.
I can't think of anything negative so....please try them!
I bouhgt these to replace my 20 years old K44s and sadly found that the old pair still produces a million times better sound than these.
I am now planning to buy the K92, big AKG fan I trust i wont be disapointed.
