These technologies, combined with the open design, provide an extremely accurate sound response that provides a wide frequency response and excellent spacial qualities. They say that the phones don't sound at their best for 500 hours, and that with a decent headphone amp they are even better. Wow if true.
I'd recommend these headphones for listening to complex and nuanced music not dependant on a big bass to be enjoyable. Always a concern of counterfeiting with online purchase of a well-known product at a big discount. I have a pair of Austrian Q701s right here for comparison. With the telephone-assistance of AKG tech support I just went over my new K702s spot by spot and my decision is I am going to keep them. Mine have the number 1671000 inside the left end of the headband. I'm not sure what that is.
BTW. All similar AKGs are made in China now. I own a a pair of Austrian 701s and to the extent I can tell, the only thing better on the 701s vs. the 702 is that the 701s say "Made in Austria" right on the side, which is cool. In fact the 702s have a slightly better leather strap design and seemingly beefier earpads.
However, the reason I give them such a low rating is because they have pretty terrible wiring. I never abused them and one day the left side would go out when I turned my head a little to the left. I came to find out that one of the wires broke at the solder point. I opened them up as carefully as anyone could and other wires started coming apart. I'll keep using them for now and sell them when I get a chance. When I did some digging and I found out this was a known issue with these headphones. Pretty bad for the price of these headphones and company that supposedly makes quality products. I not longer believe that.
Pros: Great sound quality, fairly comfortable and open back.
Cons: Faulty wiring. Poor craftsmanship.
I would warn anyone to purchase with caution. You could be getting a pair that will have to be repaired later or accept the fact that you are out the money. I wish I had found this to be a known issue before purchasing it.
I've been using this so far with a THX AAA Portable headphone amp and dac running off my PS4 Pro. Sound quality and imaging is top notch. Detail is there as is a wide sound stage. Bass is acceptable but that's not what I bought them for.
I still haven't hooked them up to my Audio GD R2R R1 dac and NFB 1 Amp or my Jotunheim Amp with multubit Dac card and listened to anything on my PC. But I don't see how the sound quality will diminish using any of those.
All in all if you're looking for a light and comfortable open back with good imaging and sound stage I'd definitely recommend them. Do they compare with a Sennheiser 6XX, 600, or 650? I don't know, I've never listened to any of thise, so take my opinions with a grain of salt. But I am reaching for these right now over my Fostex T60RP's and Hifiman HE400i's.
