before you start this install. make sure you wrap something around both ends of the canvas to keep it from unrolling, i used two bungee cords, then lay the awning on a large flat surface or two sawhorses.to install, remove the end bracket, loosen the bolt on the square bracket, tap to remove from the end. unscrew the hand crank assembly. there is a Phillips head screw underneath the tube near the end. remove this screw. then you can use vise grips to grip the round metal post on the end of the tube. pull gently and remove. before you install the green motor assembly. there is a plastic cog like wheel, install this on the opposite end of the motor from the corded end. then use the black clip to clip the wheel onto the end so it will not come loose upon installation,.push motor tube into assembly gently, until seated properly. it must fit tight against the alum tube. then install bent metal clip on the square end of the motor, using one of the metal pins as shown in diagram #3, bend the ends around. then you can re-install the square bracket on the end, using the long machine bolts that you removed, they may be too long. you might have to find shorter machine screws. and screw them into the bent metal bracket. when you install the motor make sure the adjustment area is accessable, for adjustments. you will need to make sure to have an electrical plug near by. your cord is 18' long. I will be doing the adjustments another day. everyone is right, actual instructions would be very helpful. I thank the gentlemen that gave some instructions earlier, they were helpful. I wanted to give more detail.i tested the motor and it extended and retracted, just need to adjust the opening and closing. by the way I installed under the roof instead of on a wall. so the pitch of the roof will affect the front height, if you are mounting under the roof rafters, you will need to adjust the angle of the brackets or your awning will very low in the front when extended.

I am very mechanically inclined ( structural mechanic) but for the life of me I could not figure the directions out! There was a few pictures with a hand on a hacksaw showing you that you have to cut the awning. THERE IS NO MEASUREMENTS AT ALL! I remember when instructions were written english in this country by someone who spoke english! HORRIBLE INSTRUCTIONS!
This company- and many others better start bringing back step by step instructions, not pictures! I gave up and returned it, and will do so every time in the future!

Received two of these to install in Aleko Awnings and was very pleased at how easy they were to install. ONE Word of Caution, Be sure to install with the awning in the closed position. I used a pair of saw horses and the caution is that you must put a strap around the awning before taking the manual crank off of the end, if you do not do this the awning will spring open and cause you a lot of trouble getting it closed again. Once installed the remotes and motors worked great.

I have purchased an ALEKO 12’x10’ retractable awning plus 2 extra Ceiling Brackets which was a breeze to install, but for several reasons soon enough I realized I needed a motor then I’ve purchased the DM45R; installation was very simple, removed the prior manual mechanism and slide in instead the DM45R, the kit had all the hardware needed, and there was when I run into trouble, trying to adjust the limit switches to open and close. Instructions accompanying the kit are awful, it does not matter how many times you read them, you can’t make sense of it, fortunately the switch for retracting was preset (beginner’s luck); but for the other end it was a different story (I am an obstinate DIY and I either fixed or, break it beyond repair), I research several other brands, all of them lack on details, but the technique was always the same, it took me several hours and mild anger management when the motor finally quit on me due to the overheat protection (nice feature), so I learned to give the motor long breaks to cool down, I kept trying 2 o 3 times a day trying not to overheat the motor, I might have give it over a thousand turns to the setting lug until the third day 15 minutes into the ritual the switch engaged, and now I am a very, very delighted owner of my under $600.- 12’x10’ motorized awning.

The motor works great. It appears to be well built.

I am giving it 3 stars because of the instructions. They are awful. It is actually quite easy to install but the instructions make it look much worse than reality. Step one of the written instructions seems to indicate that you should saw your awning in half. Don’t do that! Simply remove the two bolts and small screw that hold on the hand crank mechanism. You also have to loosen up the one machine screw with the Allen head. Remove the hand crank mechanism, slide the motor into the tube, and attach the small metal bracket with those two bolts with the shaft of the motor inside the hole in the center of the bracket. Tighten the machine screw back down. Why couldn’t they pay an English speaker for the ten minutes it took to type that?

Incredible value for the price ! And it even comes with a remote !! I wasn't sure if it was going to work but the specs were close. If it didn't work I would just send it back to Amazon. This motor fit like a glove and it was very quiet as compared to my old motor. When you install the motor just plug it in. It will not going forward or back. Use the adjustment tool provided and start adjusting the throws forward and reverse. after doing so use the remote. It also comes with a metal rod which can be used to open the awning in case trhe motor burns out or malfunctions. I didn't read the instructions and winged it ! Very happy with the purchase and I wouldn't hesistate for a moment to purchase again or give it a reccomendation. I enclosed some photos to show you the old motor it replaced along with others for comparison....
