ALEX is your personal posture coach tracker. It's the first wearable to accurately measure the angle of your head and neck and gently remind you when your posture is incorrect. It will help put an end to neck and shoulder pain by correcting poor posture habits built up over time.
Better Posture, Better Life
1) You know what good posture feels like: Set your custom ‘poor posture angle’ in the app and ALEX will alert you when you slip below it.
2) Find Your Own Fit: You can adjust ALEX to fit your neck with its adjustable legs
3) Stat Tracking: Check and compare stats and streaks with yourself and friends. The ALEX app generates a real-time report of your posture habits throughout the day.
According to Health Quest, 45% of today’s workers suffer with neck pain and 85% of the U.S. population suffers from back or neck pain at some point in their lives. Forward Head Posture and Text Neck are caused by leaning or bending your neck forward for a long time. This can lead to long term problems such as chronic neck pain and cause herniated cervical intervertebral discs.
ALEX sits gently on the back of your neck to track the angle of your neck and the position of your head, relative to your body. When your posture is poor for more than a few minutes, ALEX vibrates according to your personal setting. The app also lets you track your progress over time and monitor your posture in real time.
Bad posture can damage your neck and spine over time. Prevent bad posture and practice healthier habits with ALEX.
ALEX will vibrate when it detects a bad posture angle. You’ll know exactly when your posture is incorrect and improve it over time.
See your daily, monthly, and yearly progress over time with collected data in the ALEX app.
“… Alex could be helpful for certain people who have noticed that their pain increases with prolonged periods in poor posture, he adds.” “In testing Alex, I liked that I could adjust the neck till the device considered “bad,” which allowed me to set reasonable goals. I also liked that the device allowed me to choose how long it gave me before vibrating to warn of poor posture. I chose to have it vibrate after my neck and had been craned forward for a minute.” – Leon M. Straker. A professor of physiotherapy at Curtin University in Perth, Australia.
Describe your product in 3 words.
Wearable Posture Coach
How did you come up with the idea for this product?
We’re a team of biomechanical engineers, developers and technology experts. While pills and massage therapies exist to treat the pain caused by an epidemic of poor posture, none of these options effectively correct the underlying problem: Poor posture. That’s why we created ALEX to be different. ALEX will address the causes underlying your pain and coach you towards better posture, every day.
What makes your product special?
The founding members have been researching poor posture for years, but the wearables we’ve tested were often inaccurate, overly complicated or inconvenient. Unlike other devices, ALEX sits lightly on the back of your neck, the only reliable location to measure text neck and forward head posture. It tracks the angle of your neck and the position of your head, relative to your body.
What has been the best part of your startup experience?
The best part of the experience has been working together as a team to produce prototypes and software and hearing back from our backers on what a difference the product is making in improving their posture. We are also excited to hear back from Amazon customers on what we can do to continually improve their experience.
