I bought this processor for my computer. I'm sure it would have worked well, but one of the pins on the bottom was bent and another one was missing. I bought a broken processor.

I must say I am quite happy with this purchase. I bought this CPU along with RAM, Motherboard, and Case for about $170 all combined...opened up an Amazon Credit Card and got just about everything I needed for an HTPC for about $120 ($50 promotional credit for opening the Amazon Visa).

I am using this CPU mainly as an HTPC. I do not have cable service so I do not use it for any encoding and I cannot comment on how it would do for this, but for web browsing, Youtube, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, etc, it runs fine.

Netflix on a Windows PC is, unfortunately, very processor intensive due to Silverlight and its DRM requirements, which actually keeps this CPU at around 60-70% when watching HD.

The computer I'm using this CPU in is running Windows Server 2008 R2 and is also functioning as a domain controller with a few roles (DHCP, DNS, Hyper-V with 2 VMs (Win 7 for remote access and Linux for a fileserver) and has not been having any trouble. I have not really tried too much with gaming on this APU but I plan on getting a AMD Radeon HD 6570 discrete graphics card to go along with it in the near future. This is the discrete card which AMD recommends to take advantage of the "Dual Graphics" option for this line of APUs. There are several models of graphics cards with this chipset available on Amazon between $40 and $70 right now and I feel like this would be a worthwhile upgrade should I ever decide to game with this APU.

I'm not sure who was at fault, the other parts I bought were fine, but this was a joke. It looked like a returned product, and to top it all off the CPU had a bent pin. I was able to save the day because of my credit cards. Returning was absolutely not an option, as this processor is part of an inexpensive desktop build for a client with literally weeks to live. He is having me build him a cheap machine to write his goodbyes with, and to discover a bent pin, with the prospect of a possible return, was extremely off putting. Usually I have a great experience with amazon, and typically get my parts from newegg. This is what I get, I suppose.

Great price and handles everything I need in terms of graphics for my HTPC. If you have a big enough case you may want to consider buying a separate heat sink / fan as this little chip can run hot. The heat sink and fan is included with pre-applied thermal paste but I would still recommend a non stock one.

Selected this for a custom build for a computer for a music teacher. It is the dual-core version, but the program she uses favors clocks, not cores, so I slimmed the build costs by going dual instead of quad core. This is the ninth box I have built with the A-series of APUs, and not one has failed to impress. There are stronger chips out there, but these have a rare balance between high graphics capability without a card and good computing power without the high price. I tend to use these chips in Media/HTPC builds and in multi-role light- to medium-duty rigs. As a side note, if you want to see what these can do without suffering bottle-necking from other components, use it with DDR3/1866 or better RAM and a SSD instead of a platter drive. The bottlenecking of platter drives hurts these chips disproportionately and the faster the RAM, the tighter the GPU side runs, which gives better performance. Also, I have noticed that most versions of Linux do not have very good chipset drivers for the A-series, as compared to the Windows versions.

Well, what can I say about this processor...

Great price for a processor. Great starting point for a cheap build. Building a HTPC? I'd definitely consider this guy. It was easy to install. The fan works surprisingly well, never had my processor go above 45℃ (no gaming though). And the fan was almost completely silent, too.

Unfortunately, there are some minor quirks. Using Windows 8, the system worked okay. Lots of lag and stutters. And Windows 8 generally runs faster than previous versions, too (not that I am a huge fan). Everything starts, but it takes a second or two to load. Additionally, you HAVE to install the AMD drivers before you can utilize all the graphics resolution. No big deal, just a heads up.

In the end, I ended up returning this guy and purchasing a more powerful A8-6600k. While I use the processor to power a part-time HTPC, I also power a part-time cloud server. The A6 chip probably would've been adequate, but I was just not won over by it's performance during the day to day grind. If you are less needy than me, it'd be a great deal.

    My build:
    MSI FM2-A75IA-E53 mini-itx board
    FSP 350w PSU
    OCZ Vertex III SSD
    Silverstone SG06 case
    4gb Kingston KHX memory

I enjoy building computers in my free time and was excited to try this unit out for a low end gaming rig for a relative. They are a casual gamer and I feel this APU is going to be a great fit. I tested it with Minecraft (a more CPU intensive game) and Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Multiplayer. I did have to turn the settings down lower for Black Ops, but at 720p and medium settings the game ran smooth and played well. While this would not do for my own gaming needs (I am a graphics snob) it will do the average user fine with xbox 360 quality graphics or better. For anyone building a Home Theater unit or a light gaming rig, I would highly recommend this CPU and GPU combo processor with a MicroATX board (I used the FM2-A55M-E33) and a stick of 4GB DDR3 ram, all for $150 for a compact but capable rig. I will update my review if I have any problems in the future. No news is good news.

I love this cheap CPU. I used it to upgrade an old single core and wow. Its actually faster than my gaming rig (phenom 2 1045 six core) at watching youtube videos. I tagged it with 6670 GPU and it seems to upgrade the video WIN EX numbers. I can play the new tombraider at lower levels just as an experiment. I set this up for the wife and she couldnt be happier. If doing video gaming this is not really the CPU for you. A four core that will crossfire with a GPU would work much better, but for general computing and serfing the web, its really quick.
