Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

The price on the 12-core 5900x finally came down to below what I originally paid for the 5800x and I decided to go ahead and try it, to see if it would run cooler. I know the 4th generation Zen CPUs from AMD are coming soon, but history tells to avoid the first release of any major new architecture and also that even mid-range models will be virtually impossible to come by at anything close to MSRP for at least 8 months, so I plan to use this 5900x for at least 3-5 years and will buy back in at maybe the Zen 5 or Zen 6 generation.
Does my 5900x run cooler than my 5800x? Yes, by around 5 degrees C when idle, though it can quickly rise to be just as warm when editing/converting video or really doing anything which taxes more than a couple of the cores. It reduces back down quickly, however, once the cores are no longer stressed.
There have been a handful of unexplainable system crashes while trying to tune the system BIOS (in the hopes of making the CPU actually run cooler, NOT trying to make it run faster)--I expected the first crash due to aggressive settings, but after backing off most of the way I had 2 more crashes. Backed off a bit more and it's been running stable for the past 30 hours.
I am air cooling with a solid Noctua 90mm dual fan tower in a Phanteks mATX case.
I installed a "be quiet Pure Rock 2 black (BK007)" cooler as this cpu did not come with a "thermal solution" (no fan in the box like my old Ryzen 5 1600 had). I attached a picture that shows the running temp is 42°C after operating all day on various tasks, including email, light gaming (AoE II on a CD), web, watching movies, etc. I have a review for that as well; short story, I am very happy and impressed!
I was pleased that my older motherboard was finally able to use a series 5000 cpu which made my computer compatible with Windows 11. The Ryzen 5 1600 cpu was not able to update from Windows 10 as Microsoft said it was an incompatible cpu. So far, still getting used to Win 11, but it is not terrible...

For those of you that run near-bare-metal virtual machines in Linux, this CPU has two L3 caches, so for best performance in a gaming VM, you'd end up isolating 6c/12t to the host, and 6c/12t to the guest. This setup does extremely well at gaming.
NOTE: This particular listing does *not* come with a CPU cooler. Though, even if it did, I'd recommend getting a beefier third-party cooler (I'm personally a fan of Noctua), as it can really benefit from one, and the stock coolers generally aren't made for overclocking or long-term high-load scenarios.
Overall, I definitely recommend this CPU for someone that uses their PC for gaming, and as a workstation (programming, VMs, multicore-intensive tasks). If you're only doing gaming really, I'd suggest sticking to the 5800X3D.
This is the second 5900X I have ordered in a week. The first one came in a box that was in pretty bad shape, that, I did not mind so much. Once I broke the seal and pulled out the CPU to check the pins, I noticed there was staining and scuffing on the lid of the CPU.... I had to ask myself if this was even a new product. I install it and of course, it doesn't boot. So I returned that one and order another. It arrived today in almost an equally crushed product box. I break the seal and remove the CPU for inspection and again there is even more scuffing on this CPU. This one I have not yet installed to test if it works, but someone needs to look into what is going on here.
I started to question if someone could get these out of the box without breaking the seal so I inspect the bottom of the box where it folds together... With a razor, I carefully cut away the glue and voila the box opens right up, I look at the glue and it looks like it was actually re-glued as there are two separate glue patterns. If the CPU works fine, I don't care but this also needs some attention if this is the case. I just got done installing over one hundred 5950X and fourty 5900X for work and not a single one of them looked anything like what I have seen with these two "fresh" out of the box.

5800x best value for money
But 5900x still great value and has a bit more future proofing will probably have this puppy for 5years so it's what £100 a year thats nothing.
I ran some standard overclocking and xmp and it just worked no crashing.
If anyone is looking for a cpu to game on 100% go for 5800 or 5900 depending on your budget and if you're really stuck you can save a bit extra and get a 5600 and upgrade in a year or 2.
As an 15 year Intel user this gets a big thumb up from me.

Not had an AMD CPU for over 10 years, so was sceptical. Did not disappoint.
Runs hotter than I am use to! But this is normal apparently.
However, I would not encourage anybody to buy this above its RRP. Its not worth enabling scalpers. It will be back in stock at retail prices.
