The U.S. Armed Forces' best-kept secret is now available to the consumer market. Military performance-tested sunglasses with classic aviator styling, the Original Pilot Sunglasses® have been a favorite of U.S. military pilots for more than 40 years. They are engineered to rigid military specifications and have been issued to millions of U.S. soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen since 1958. These genuine Original Pilot Sunglasses by AO Eyewear were also the sunglasses worn by Neil Armstrong on Apollo 11 mission to the moon in 1969. Pure and polished, distortion-free optical True Color® grey glass lenses are chemically toughened and hardened for impact and scratch resistance.

Forget Ray-Bans people, these are some bad-ass shades! Not only are they inexpensive for the quality, but the significant historical value behind these glasses seals the deal. When people compliment you on these shades (which they will), you can enlighten them on the fact that the Flight Goggle 58's were honored to be the first ever sunglasses to land on the moon, which of course were worn by Commander Neil Armstrong and the crew of Apollo 11 in 1969 -OR- They're what Don Draper wears in "Mad Men"
Size Advice: If you only have large face, then do 55mm or 57mm. Otherwise, if you have a medium-large to small face, I'd do the 52mm. I bought the 55mm first (I have a bigger head for my height) and I ended up returning for 52mm - which I'm wearing in the photo below.
Hope this helps! As you can tell, I'm very passionate about these glasses! If I could give them 6 stars, I would.
Here are a few things to keep in mind. The lenses are made in three sizes, 52, 55, and 57mm. Unless you have a huge head, get the 52mm. They're supposed to look smaller and fit tighter than the popularized aviators. The glasses will also likely need to be adjusted. Straight out of the box, they sat very low on my face and did not cover eyebrows so I had them adjusted. Most eyeglass stores will adjust at little to no price.
The lenses are made of glass and will crack if you drop them. AO used to offer lens replacements on their site but no longer do so. I'm currently on my second pair. My first pair lasted me two years until I dropped them and shattered the lens. If you're clumsy, I'd consider buying the Original Pilot's with plastic lenses. If you go that route however, they will be lighter, scratch easier, and you'll trade optical quality.
I love these sunglasses. Both the polarized and non-polarized lenses are great and the build quality is top notch. AO also provides a 1-year warranty. If you're going for the classic, real aviator look, look no further.
Don't spend $20 on crap or $150 on "brand names" these will be your favorite and I am.still surprised they are only $60 and would buy more if I didn't have so many already.
The glass lenses are great, the frames are simple yet elegant, and the case is solid. What more could I ask for!
Note: I have a lot of "O" glasses. Overpriced and lenses made of plastic. I know quality when I see them. AO is top line if you get them with the glass lens. I don't like polarized lenses as they interfere with my smartphone face.
I have a slender face for a male. My hat size is 6 7/8. The 52 mm size is a perfect fit as the temples can easily be adjusted to any grip.
Price? How can you beat 50 bucks for the best looking coolest sunglasses ever made. One year warranty, they'll last a lifetime if you take care of them. Get a hard case to put them in.
American Optical came out with these in 1958. Thanks for not trying to improve on perfection.
