Ultra High Definition and High Pixel Density
AOC's C4008VU8 features a 40-inch professional, high-quality, non-glare VA panel for fast refresh and brilliant colors. Ultra High Definition (UHD) allows users to see more on the screen at one time, it gives more "real estate" and also shows more detail for sharper and more brilliant images. A 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution is four times a Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution monitor. Whether working on the next beautiful photo, design or even just for productivity, users will appreciate the true crisp image from a UHD display.
VA Panel for Wide Viewing Angles
VA panels give 178/178 degree viewing angles while maintaining consistent image quality and colors from all viewing positions. VA panels have the color depth that results in incredible color accuracy. The screen itself has a matte anti-glare coating that won't leave fingerprints or smudges. VA panels are perfect for graphic designing, video editing, photo retouching, among others. You can also view your spreadsheets or weekend movies from virtually any angle without compromising color uniformity.
85% NTSC Wide Color Gamut
This curved 4K monitor has a larger color gamut, which means larger range of the wide-gamut RGB color space the monitor is able to display. A typical monitor has only 72% NTSC color gamut, whereas the C4008VU8 boasts an incredible 85% NTSC wide color gamut for rich vivid colors.
This monitor features a 10-bit panel boasting 1.07 billion colors. More colors means the panel can present more depth and richer color, producing more colorful and vivid images.
Immersive Visual Experience
Human eyes are not flat and perceive the world around us in angles and curves. Curved monitors deliver the best viewable angles that allow users to see more. Aside from the appeal of an immersive gaming or work environment, the curvature conforms to the way we see and helps reduce eye fatigue.

But there is one anoyance, the Response Time is the slowest I used, and its very noticeable when playing RPG games with dark shadows and bright highlights. Its ok on pastel colored games like Overwatch, but games where you explore dungens/caves are hard on the eyes. For me this is ok since I only occasionally play games; most of my workday I send coding and writting documents, so the enormous amount of screen real estate far outways the impact on games.
In short, if you are planning to use this purely for gaming, I would recommend you consider the Response Time trade off you get by going so big. But if you are planning to use this mostly for writing and/or edditing still images, it is fantastic.
I don't play action games, so I can't say how this monitor will perform on a gaming machine. But for grand strategy games like Crusader Kings II, Stellaris, Europa Universalis IV, and Victoria II, it's nothing short of awesome. Sports in HD look fantastic, and HD movies are great. I watched two episodes of Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes on Blue Ray last night and they looked fantastic.
I did initially experience some of the "red blobs" on skin tones during dark scenes that have been reported in some other reviews, but manually updating the Windows 10 driver and tweaking the settings essentially solved the problem. I can still see it every once in a while, but it's very mild and does not bother me in the least. Overall, HD movies look great.
The curvature of the screen is not extreme. I was worried it would look like a fishbowl, but that's not at all the case. I'd say it's just right. Sound quality from the speakers is very thin and tinny, so if you're planning on watching TV, movies, sports, etc, don't expect very good sound. I'm using a separate sound system, so that's not a factor for me.
One thing to note if you are using the HDMI inputs is that only one of them is HDMI 2.0. The other is HDMI 1.4, which only supports a 30Hz refresh rate. To get the 60Hz refresh rate, you need to use HDMI input 2.
Overall, the monitor is great. I'm very happy with the purchase and am amazed at the value.
For reference, here are my machine specs:
-CPU: AMD FX8350 4.0Ghz 8 Core
-RAM: 32 GB
-GPU: NVIDIA GTX1060 with 6GB of RAM
The monitor runs well at it's 4K resolution at 60 fps via Display Port 1.2. I have not had the "red blob" effect that others have described.
While it was at first overwhelming to have such a large screen on my desk, it is now hard to go back to a much smaller screen -- the productivity of a large display is something that you simply have to experience for yourself to decide whether it work for you or not.
Have this baby hooked up to a GTX 1060 using DisplayPort and am enjoying my 40 inches of pristine bliss. This monitor replaced a 32” 1440p monitor I still have. I have a deep desk so I am able to have about 3.5 to four feet between me and the display.
No, this is not a gamers delight monitor and how could it be at only 60hz? What it excels at is pictures, movies, and all around fun. I am still able to play my games (at lower FPS than previous monitor) without blotches or tearing some have reported. I believe a lot of that has to do with what you use to hook this monitor up and with 4K at 60hz it is necessary to have a newer powerful graphics card. If hooking this up to HDMI you will need to purchase a 2.0 hdmi cable as the cable that comes with the monitor is only 1.4 and will not do 4K @ 60hz. Some of you having issues I wonder if this is why. The display port cable that comes with the monitor is 1.2 and does 4K at 60hz. That is what i am using. The app HWinfo works well in showing monitor speed and frequency as it is hooked up.
Again, it’s all about realistic expectations and using your noggin. If all you are using your computer for is gaming and you need higher than 60hz refresh then keep looking. For everyone else that uses their computer for productivity, pics, movies, with occasional gaming this is one great monitor and the sheer size and picture is something to behold.
