What bothers me most about the monitor is how red-leaning the pixels are. Now, I'm extremely color sensitive and I can notice things that most others won't, and for me it's a blatant color difference between other monitors but most people probably wouldn't even notice. It's most noticeable on whites and blacks. What makes it stand out though is the fact that I use it as a second monitor, so I have another monitor constantly next to it display purer colors which exemplifies this drawback, especially to color-sensitive me. If you were using this as just a single monitor I wouldn't consider this a drawback because you wouldn't constantly be getting conflicting colors from other monitors, and stand-alone there's nothing too bad about the red-leaning pixels.
To sum up:
Pros: Fantastic price for the size, easy to set up (worked right out of the box for me), and it functions great.
Cons: No HDMI which usually would come standard with a monitor in this day and age, has red-leaning pixels, and has odd button use when messing with the menu (the "Auto" button works as a "Back" button, but there's nothing intuitive about that at all, you'd have to learn that by trying it - maybe the disk would tell you this but I never even loaded the disk in - no written manual.) Also, the up-down pivot is pretty stiff, I feel like I'm about to snap something just by tilting the monitor up or down, but the tilt does work fine. One last con, is that the power connection on the back isn't as snug a fit as I would like. I did a lot of messing around behind my computer on my router and every small little bump or adjustment would turn the monitor off and I'd have to re-push in the power cord into the back of the monitor.
All in all my cons are mostly aesthetic and a little nit-picky, it's still a good value.
If I needed a nicely sized monitor on a small budget, I'd buy again.
So now I'm using an HD monitor as a display to get the same display as the laptop, and it is better than the laptop, *except that the color tan (or manila; the fall leave are greenish yellow; pumpkins are not quite pumpkins) comes out glaring yellow, even with all of the preset color or my user color schemes. Also. I notice a slight darkness to the display, (unless I'm just use to my close up, glaring computer). so I use the "Bright Frame" setting, moved to frame size 100%.
The screen tilts, from the top of the pedestal, only about 22 or 25 degrees backwards, not forward that you can notice.
Simce it connects at the bottom and moves at the top of the pedestal, it will not matter which direction it is connected.
The base has some rubber feet that stick to a surface.
**Also, that power cord, at the monitor, loses it's power without actually coming out, if moved a little more than usual.
Somehow, I feel I've overlooked something simple that is causing that one color flaw??
Even the color of Amazon's box, is not light brown, it's YELLOW.
**Note: I checked out my power cord connection more closely, and it may be possible to put it in backwards and still get power. There are three prongs and the middle one is toward the back a little and the receptacle holes are the middle one toward the back a little. When I aligned it this way, I'm pretty sure it went in more. It passed the jiggle test.
*** It might have too much green; I reduced it until a yellow pop up note went from yellow to beige;
it was pinkish on my laptop, which is probably also off. The color of pumpkin improved. The white might be a little off??
I finally lowered all my colors with green being the least and I still have more than enough color; could it be more than one color card is working here (in my case)?
I have a very good definition TV picture on this monitor, probably HD, ("1920 x 1080 resolution, RGB enhanced" shows on screen when I push the display button) , with great color; run through my DVR, hdmi to dvi-d cable. (High Speed, in case that is significant)
I give it a 5/5, at the moment, because it doesn't really have any major issues. I will say, though, that I find the picture controls a tad difficult to use and adjust. They're located on the bottom of the monitor, so you have to memorize their location to use them without bending over/etc. However, if you're not super picky about how you like the perfect combination of brightness, gamma, contrast, and color (unlike me...), it's a pretty good buy for the price.
Please note, though, that the monitor CAN adjust its tilt; it just sticks a bit, so adjust it slowly. But, the box actually explains that it tilts between -4 and 17°.
