Offering the easiest way to enjoy true analog amplifier sound in your headphones, the amPlug series has been a bestseller since it first appeared in 2007. With amPlug G2, the crucial analog circuit has been drastically improved, and each model now provides three modes. Guitar types provide multi-effect functionality, and a rhythm function has been added to the bass type. A foldable plug mechanism that rotates 180 degrees and an auto power-off function are additional features that contribute significantly to improved convenience and ease of use. The amPlug is the simplest way to get serious sound; occupying virtually no space, it's an ideal choice for any guitarist or bassist. Plug the amPlug into your guitar and enjoy serious sound. It's that simple! To use the palm sized amPlug, just plug it into your guitar and grab your headphones. Playing your guitar or bass with amPlug results in serious amp sound that's overflowing with presence. A wide range of variation is available, as the lineup consists of four models: "AC30" provides the AC30 top boost sound, "Classic Rock" gives you the classic crunch sound of a UK-made 100W amp, "Metal" delivers the extreme high-gain sound of a US-made amp, and "Bass" is designed specifically for bass.

If you roll the "tone" dial down to 3 or 4 it sounds more "British", roll it up to 7 or 8 and it sounds more "American". Gain works well from clean to crunch. The built in delay effect sounds good on "setting 1" which is the fastest delay (setting 3, the slowest delay is suitable if you want to make some weird noises), the reverb effect sounds best to me on "setting 1". I don't do much with the chorus effect, but it's there. The tremolo effect on the low setting is nice, but on the high setting it's too deep for my liking.
Don't bother using this with earbuds, you won't get very good sound that way. Through closed-back over ear headphones this sounds really great for a headphone guitar amp. I'm using Monoprice 8323 closed back headphones which are only around $20, have a removable cord, and sound about as good as Sony MDR7506 for guitar use. Definitely impressed with this headphone guitar amp!
The item is entirely plastic, so I wouldn't expect it withstand too much abuse, but nothing loose or wiggly. I think the portion on the front is done well, although it's obviously just purely aesthetic. The wheels for adjustments are plastic, but once again, no wiggle after a few month of use. Not worried about the input or output jacks. They have help up well.
First off, this is intended for practice. I would not expect to record anything besides maybe just to scratch some ideas, but you'd have to do it through the 3.5mm jack if that's what you wanted. For practice, you can a range of tones that you'd hear from an AC30. I think it gets the distortion down well, but I have a hard time getting a usable clean tone at a audible volume. If it did I would give it 5 stars. Because of that you will almost always being playing with some degree of audible distortion. The effects are not the reason I got the piece, but they give you something to play with and don't destroy the tone.
For a cheap and portable practice unit I don't think there is anything out there to compete. I would certainly purchase other products in this line.
EASE OF USE: Battery life is great. I honestly have not changed it using about 3 hours a week for 6 months in a row. Learning the different settings only takes a few moments, and directions were very straightforward.
Despite having a 30-watt tube amp and 150-watt modeling amp, I live with a family of four so I'm confined to the headset amp 90 percent of the time. But, with this gadget, I don't mind.
-Wonderful effects include three levels of chorus, reverb, delay and tremolo, as well as a gain knob for overdrive. And clean.
-Two AAA batteries seem to last several hours (I use NiMH rechargeables).
-Aux input! This is great for plugging in your smartphone, stereo, or even TV, to jam along with
-This also works great as a standard headphone amp. I often listen to my TV with headphones at night as to not disturb my concubine. The problem is, the TV isn't loud enough with the headphones. However, with this amp, it's plenty loud enough to block out her screams.
-Plastic construction means it's very susceptible to damage. I worry often about it falling to the floor and being stepped on. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm sure it would be done for if that happened.
I've been playing bass for 7 years and I wish I had bought this sooner!!!
It has 3 drum tracks which is the coolest part in my opinion. Great for practicing on the go when you have time to practice but don't want to lug an amp around or you can't make noise. It works great with headphones.
100% recommend this to every bass player out there! Beginners and professionals!!!
So, last week I bought this Vox unit VOX AP2BS amPlug Bass G2 Guitar Headphone Amp which does the same thing but is made for a bass and costs almost four times as much ($39.99). Does it sound $29 better? Oh, yeah.
Both units have volume, tone and gain adjustments (pots), an aux input and, of course, a headphone output. The Joyo's initial gain adjustment is a pot whereas the Vox unit has 3 discrete levels you select with a push-button. (But there is a volume dial.) The Vox unit also has a drum machine with adjustable volume, tempo and 3 different rhythms, one of which can be tweaked to be just a metronome. I didn't want the drum machine but I could see a use for it, provided we're in 4/4 time.
I wish I'd bought the Vox unit two years ago; it sounds that much better. The tone is clean and rich and sounds, to me, like an expensive amp.
