Stay Connected During Power Outages
Power outages can happen quite often, ranging from brief interruptions to long-lasting storms. When the power is out, your network cannot connect to the internet. This makes it difficult to get in touch with the outside world for personal or work communication. The BGE50ML features a lithium-ion battery pack that provides hours of critical power to your network during outages. This backup power source ensures you can get weather updates, make phone/video calls, check e-mail, stream movies, continue gaming, maintain home automation/wireless security connectivity, and more.
Removable Battery Pack Lets You Charge Anywhere
The BGE50ML features a removable Mobile Power Pack (M12USWH) for charging your mobile devices on the go. This compact, portable battery charges a smartphone five times from 0 to 100 percent before it needs to be recharged itself. Convenient LEDs on the front of the battery let you know how much power remains in the power pack and alert you when power is low. The M12USWH is also sold separately to support the user who needs extra UPS and mobile power. An additional Mobile Power Pack doubles your runtime during an extended outage, or provides an extra battery for the UPS at home when you're on the go.
Two Rotating Outlets and Three USB Charging Ports
The BGE50ML features two outlets that can be rotated 90 degrees and 45 degrees to fit nicely within any home setup. Charge your mobile devices using the three USB ports, including a 2.4 amp USB port that integrates Smart Charging technology to maximize output according to the type of smartphone or tablet detected. When the UPS is connected to AC power, you can charge the power pack and your connected USB devices simultaneously.
Surge Protection for Connected Devices
The BGE50ML provides surge protection for your network and mobile devices. Connected electronics will be safeguarded against lightning, surges, and spikes, even when the battery pack is removed.

In the past I had my cable modem, router, and Ethernet switch all on my desk in my home office, so all were plugged into the same UPS that runs my desktop computer. When we moved a few months ago, the home office in my new house is now at one end of the house - not ideal spot for Wi-Fi for the house, so I wanted to locate the modem & router in another room, and the Ethernet switch went in the basement for convenience of wiring up a couple computers and a printer spread around the house.
I no sooner finished wiring everything up, when I realized - what happens with one of our famous power glitches? I'm going to lose Internet. What I need is a couple of very compact UPS's that just power the small electronics (modem & Time Capsule router at one location, and Ethernet switch at another). Wonder if anyone makes something small & inexpensive...
Sure enough this BGE70 is just about tailor-made for my situation. I had already built an enclosed cabinet for the modem & router that had plenty of room for extra wiring for a stereo system, no problem adding this in there. In the basement, I'd wall-mounted the Ethernet switch and a patch panel - the hanging slots on the BGE70 let me mount it up right alongside.
I like that the battery is easily accessible & replaceable for when that time comes (as it always does with a UPS). It's also a fairly standard and easy to buy battery, which does affect the form factor (there are some more compact UPS's that almost look like an oversized power strip - but good luck finding a replacement battery in 4 years). I like that the alarm beeps ONCE during a power outage, and doesn't keep chiming away like most UPS's.
UPDATE - WARNING: Had for 2 weeks - heard loud pop, smelled smoke and the plug my modem was plugged into was black. Thank God we were home or we may have had a fire.
Looked up serial number on APC site and unit was manufactured in 2014 with only a 3 year warranty. Luckily it was within the warranty period and APC is sending a replacement.
Received replacement unit which was also manufactured in 2014. Schneider Electric refused to replace with newer unit. Terrible manufacturer customer service. Will not buy again!
If you need maximum runtime, go with the BGE90m and plan on replacing the battery occasionally. If you need maximum battery lifespan, go with the BGE50ML -- its lithium ion battery will live a lot longer than the batteries in the other two units.
When I pluged it in it gave out a ear shattering, continuous alarm that only quit when I pulled the plug. After a moment, I plugged the unit back in only to have it now "chattering" non-stop. It wouldn't power up at all.
