We have over 50 PCs in operation at our site. We have used the 350 series for base workstations primarily for surge protection and to give users momentary protection in the event of a power spike / outage. We used the 350s and replaced batteries as necessary with many units lasting for 8 and 10 years. With the 350 being phased out, I bought this unit to give it a 'shake down'. First, the unit feels flimsy. Next, the battery seems to be PURPOSELY DESIGNED NOT TO BE REPLACED. The old 350s had a very accessible battery. This unit , has DEEPLY RECESSED security bits that appear to be designed to prevent the replacement of a battery. Not to be deterred, I ordered a special set of deep security bits that were NARROW. Unfortunately they are not narrow ENOUGH. I am now going to see if I can open the screw access holes with a DRILL BIT, just so I can access the battery, Obviously, this will need to be done carefully. All in ALL TO MUCH WORK just to use APC. If you're into "BUY IT and TOSS IT" you might be satisfied. If you are used to APC QUALITY, I think you will be VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I was able to open the unit using a #1 Phillips screwdriver with a 3/16 shank that was 5 inches long. What I found confirmed my fears.
This unit is poorly made. The circuitry is not separated from the battery as the older units are. The battery does not even say 'APC', the supplied Chinese battery had the wire connectors crimped to the battery. One came off with a bit of struggle, the other would have required too much force and I was afraid I'd pull the post out of the battery. All in All a VERY SAD reflection on what once was a fine American Company. I have no qualms about a company wishing to cut manufacturing cost but there is no reason to cut QUALITY as well.
I have attached photos of the interior of this unit as well as the battery and an 'original' APC battery.

Bad products description. 425 don't have USB management connection.

The 425va don't come with USB management connection unlike the other product in this series. They need to clearly label this in the description. I look at the APC website and there's nothing that said this is different. In addition Amazon won't let me return because of large battery. They should have put it as non-returnable. I am unhappy because I would have gladly paid more for the next level up if I had known this don't have what I need.
