Can you adjust the alarm settings or totally disable the alarm?
Yes, UPS's that are connected to computers can have their sensitivity settings adjusted in the PowerChute software; also you can specify what hours you want to disable the alarm, if desired. The alarm 'mode' can be set via the power button.
Does BE600M1 have a replaceable battery?
When it's time to refresh the battery, APC offers a User-replaceable battery for model BE600M1 under part # APCRBC154 (sold separately). Depending on usage, a UPS battery typically lasts for 3-5 years before needing to be replaced.
How do you turn off the alarm?
You can temporarily mute some alarms with a 1-2 second press of the Power button, which mutes an alarm until the condition that caused the alarm is reset. Critical events (i.e. Battery replacement) require unit to be turned off.
How long will this UPS power my system when the power goes out?
The runtime of any UPS will vary based on the amount of power required by your the devices plugged into the battery backup outlets. In the PowerChute Software, you can see 'Estimated Battery Time' based on the power-draw of your connected devices.
Can I plug a printer into a UPS?
Due to the large amount of power used by printers, APC does not recommend connecting them to a UPS below 1500VA. If printers are connected, it may cause the UPS to transfer to battery repeatedly, exhausting the battery unnecessarily.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
There was one minor thing that bugged me though. When we'd lose power, even for a split second, it would take a good five minutes to get back online. And it's never good when you're on a conference call and suddenly just disappear off the network. Since we don't have a landline or cell coverage I couldn't even call or text someone to let them know what happened.. It was just POOF!
So I decided to get a UPS to connect the fiber gateway and modem into so that if nothing else, I'd at least have enough time to let people know we were having a power outage and I'd be back once it's situated or I got my generator hooked up.
I didn't need anything huge since I have a work laptop that will run for several hours on battery, my cell phone is usually always charged and I wasn't going to be running anything other than the internet hardware on it. If the power would be out longer, we have a gas generator we hook up and that allows us to run more things. This was just to keep the internet going for long enough to save a file, end a call or finish what I was working on and shut down.
It does just that, and it does it wonderfully.
I'd been waiting to write my review until I got a chance to test it out. But since hooking it up I hadn't been home any of the half a dozen or so times the power went off. Until just now. Literally five minutes ago our power flickered off.. just for a second. My monitors flashed off, the TV in the living room turned off, laptop switched to battery power, but the modem stayed steady with two green lights. I HEARD the UPS switch activate. It was a small, barely noticable "click" behind me as things blacked out for a bit. When I turned to look at the modem it was happily humming along with two green lights. :) YES!!! That's just what I wanted.
I honestly wish I'd bought this thing two years ago when I first started working from home, but now that I'm fully remote it's going to be a lifesaver.
I'll admit I looked at a BUNCH of them before buying this one. But having worked in industrial and office settings before where UPS systems were commonplace to avoid interruption in critical operations, one thing always jumped out to me.. the letters APC. For the longest time I thought APC was the only company that made them because I never saw another brand in use. So when my research lead me to the other brands I almost took a chance on a different unit, but ultimately decided to stick with what I knew many companies trusted and bought an APC UPS. I'm glad I did.
I bought the newer version. The cost was not too much of an increase over a battery alone, especially not when amortized over the lifetime. The new design is sleeker and, I presume that as another reviewer said, the electronics have at least a decade of improvement as well. I don't need the battery support much, but it is an important part of the surge protection. It has, once or twice, allowed me to shut down cleanly when we had a power outage – rare where I live.
The outlets work well. Unfortunately, geometry limits how many power bricks will plug in cleanly. So I make sure that computers and external drives are on the surge/battery outlets and just run an extension plug block from a surge only outlet for any other things that do not require battery like desk lights.
This has been a reliable solution to a common problem at a reasonable price. I do not remember why I chose APC in the first place, but I have no regrets. And no more blown CPUs!
I keep my cable modem and wifi router plugged into this (the router is a TP Link Deco mesh network router).
Today we lost power for 3 hrs 15 mins (yes, in the NYC area!). The battery backup kept the internet and wifi up for the entire time! I know, this depends on the load from the cable modem (low) and the wifi router (my Deco is low consumption, my previous router was power hungry). This meant I could continue working off my laptop without interruption.
The other use case would be to plug in servers/desktops to ensure they are shutdown gracefully. I instead use this as a cheaper alternative to buying a pricey Generac generator as majority of outages last minutes to a few hours. Great purchase!!

I purposely bought a mid-tier unit capable of handling my power needs (a single gaming PC and single monitor). However this 330w unit has issues when I push the graphics card close to 300watts...an alarm tone starts blaring and won't stop. Its loud and annoying!
I've tried running it with only PC and no monitor (which makes it hard to shut down the pc in a power failure).
Apparently the unit switches to battery load when its not needed...why?
I've contacted support twice through email and twice on live chat. Responses are extremely slow.
I've asked if there is any way to turn off the alarm...I get no answer. I've asked for any solutions...but get none.
Only answer I get (if I push the issue) is "buy a more powerful unit".
If you complain, you get ignored.
I can't return this unit because I have to ship by special method and at my expense. Not worth it.
So I have a $100 paperweight unless I want to use it as a phone charger.
Be warned...even the related software for this unit will not disable the persistent and annoying alarms!
The battery is user replaceable if it degrades over time... you can buy a replacement here on Amazon!
I would definitely recommend this. Excellent, reliable, inexpensive UPS.
It's too bad because otherwise it seems to work well. I had planned to use it to backup my Internet components (router, hub), as well as a couple of NAS devices.
There also seemed to be some confusion about this product's capabilities. The BE600M1 is a light UPS at 330 Watt (W), which is a peak load. At the full 330W it would only last about 3 minutes. You should typically plan for 1/2 the peak capacity, so 165W in this case, which would last 10-12 minutes. At a low of about 40W this device would last over an hour.
So it could probably handle many notebooks, or a variety of small devices. For example my ReadyNAS uses 54W, and my Synology uses about 31W, so with other Internet devices, I wasn't going to exceed the 165W, and should have had enough time to react.
The unit said that it was working properly but it was far from that! :(
I would not recommend this to anyone at all! DO NOT BUY THIS CRAP IT MALFUNCTIONS FIRST TIME ALL THE WAY!
I tried to RMA this unit 4 times and the units all died the same death and just screwed things up royally for me!
APC fixed this by ordering me a completely different model number and it's much more powerful than this one.
That one worked fine I am happy with the results; NO MORE PROBLEMS!
it's a 650VA 390Watt unit and if you want quality and reliability use that one instead of this one which was horrible!
Hope you don't have a relapse of the crap I went thru with this junk.
Thanks for reading this review and use the advice to your best when selecting a product to keep your PC running in a power failure!
