Great UPS for multiple devices

I got this because it had the capability to control multiple devices. The alternative was to get a dedicated UPS for each device which was unmanageable. This Smart-UPS has a slot for a network management card (had to be purchased separately directly from APC) which can talk to the various devices you need to control and can shut them down gracefully based on various monitored parameters. I found this the only way to gracefully shut down my two Buffalo NAS devices which will not support installation of a client app. It has enough power to support two high-end PCs, each with its own LCD monitor, two four-HDD NAS boxes, and a small phone system. I'm very happy with it.

Great unit - put in the SNMP management card (APC AP9630) and you can configure the outlet groups, when they turn off, etc... Nice digital display, easy to use this. It's a bit on the heavy side (as you'd expect) so if you don't have the upper body strength, find another geek to help you wrestle it :-) Definitely don't drop it on your toe if you like your toe - this will leave a mark for years.

Easy to swap out the batteries when the time comes too.

The APC units all get a 5 star on purchase, but some of the units come with batteries that have a short life. Most will run 3 years which is typical for lead acid sealed batteries that the units have of varable ampere hour capacity.
This particular unit is only appropriate for a server. It is way too expensive and heavy for a workstation. It is also difficult in the usual retail channel to buy these larger units from brick and mortar stores. Expect to pay for shipping.
I've used this particular APC unit for a month and have had zero downtime. It replaced a smaller unit that was a few days over one year when I determined that it failed. APC is the leader in this category and the build quality is excellent. I've had varable life from them because of battery failure but have yet to have one work after battery replacement, which I've abandoned. The batteries are about 40% of the cost of a new unit and are their Achilles heel.
I've used APC units for about 20 years and have bought about 15 of them. Overall "they just work", until the battery fails.

I rely on this for an electronic medical device so it's important that the features and performance are unquestionable.

So far after a few power outages during the past year, I'm convinced we made the right choice. A little expensive, but the features on other brands cannot be matched under $500 like this one so in all, a good value for what you are getting - a solid backup indeed!

I purchase more than 6 of these a year for my entire office. Their life expectancy is about 40 months average and there is a warning sound the device makes about a week before it turns off completely. A week provides enough time to purchase another if you don't keep extras on hand. There are enough plugs in the back to accomodate the printer and monitor as wells. This is an excellent product that does what it says it will and keep my office computers running when the power fails 3 times per year.

I have the older version of this UPS... lots of leds and two buttons to push. This one has a "user-friendly" lcd screen with 4 "control" buttons.
Imagine you have a power-outage. After shutting down your PC, with the old unit, I could push the button with my toe and silence followed.
With this unit, you have to first, lay down on the floor so you can see the menu, and then, you actually can not shut the unit off. After about 20 button presses, I did manage to get it to turn off the "AC-power generation", which also manages to turn off the beeping.
Sometimes "user-friendly" may be wonderful in the lab, with the unit on the tabletop, but it is less than idea in a real use situation.
That said, the power features and general utility of APC units is their outstanding top-notch work, and I would happily purchase another unit when the need arises.

Bought this to replace a SmartUPS 1400 that fially bit the dust. This new unit runs cooler than the 1400 did. I like the front panel readout for quick status displays of Voltage in/out,, Battery charge, Efficiency etc.I am using this to backup my Main computer, A small Server used as a NAS box & my Ooma phone system. According to the front panel display I'm using 119 - 150 watts depending on main computer CPU load.

Worked great with x79 system. Works great with x99 system. Had some stability issues but they were traced to unrelated root causes. Unit worked great out of the box (was at 99% charge when I first powered it up).

Unit runs very quiet (totally silent) at this time.

Have had 2 major power outages and each time this unit performed fantastically - keeping my primary computer up and running with plenty of time to peform shutdown. There was plenty of reserve power which I used to keep the WiFi router and cable modem running and was able to keep the mobile phone recharged as well.
