Product Description

Brand New Pair Of Hinges For The Rear Hatch Glass
These hinges attach from the rear hatch to the rear glass and allows the rear glass hatch to open
Both Rear Left & Right Hinges Included
Fits 2002-2005 Ford Explorer
Fits 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer
Replaces Ford Part #: 2L2Z-78420A68-AA
The original hinges tend to rust and corrode over time and can actually break. Once they start to corrode, it is only a matter of time until opening the rear glass is difficult and potentially dangerous. Inspect and replace your hinges at any sign of corrosion.

Easy install. Would have been better if the gasket was rubber like the original however they fit fine. Oh by the way, on a 2002-03 Explorer these are a recalled part. You can get it fixed for free at the Ford dealer. I didn't because I didn't have the time to let them have the vehicle all day for a 20 min. fix. I went for the 60 bucks and did it myself. 2 out of 10 for difficulty of install.

The part came sooner than expected and also cheaper compared to other auto part places. Very satisfied but please note the part doesnt come with a nut so make sure u dont lose the original one off the hingles.

Added before and after pics. My hingle literally rusted off leaving my back windown in that before state.

I will say, I was kind of unimpressed but this item for my SUV. I bought these because I have a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT, and one of these hinges were broken when I purchased the vehicle. The actual Ford dealers around my area (within a 100 mile radius) wanted $179 for the hinges they provide, and they is without installation. I was excited to find them as such good price, however, when I took off the old hinge that was not damaged, I compared the 2 realizing the quality was a lot different. I have had these on my vehicle for less than 2 years and they are already coming apart. These were installed by a professional mechanic as well, so installation was not the issue. I guess I had just expected for them to last a little longer. However, for the price and performance or the actual item, they were worth the price and I would recommend them to a friend, but with the review I have written here.

Fit and finish are great. Direct and proper fit.
To me definitely worth the extra 20% or so above the cost of the Dorman product. See my Dorman 924-160 review.
Would have given the 5 stars but just as Dorman these do not include the plastic centering washers for the glass side fastener.
I would like to have had them new also even if it cost me an extra $1 or $2.
I am sure you would like new also.
Reluctantly I reused the oem plastic washers and one day I will stop at a Ford/Lincoln - Merc dealership and buy a couple.

Why the hell don't they include these? Strictly a Ford OEM item? Absolutely not. Just not likely to be at your local hardware store. Grainger, McMaster-Carr, Fasten-all maybe.

PS: The local Ford and Lincoln Merc dealer-ships here ships ran from a low of $81 to a high of $96 plus tax. I don't know that they included the washers or not.
OEM Ford kit on E-bay was about $65 plus or minus hassle factor.

I watched a video on you-tube and installed both hinges on my 2005 Ford Explorer. I used the old plastic washers between the nut and glass. They are not the same quality as the original factory hinges and they don't fit perfectly flush on the glass but at $50 they are a third of the price the dealer wanted for the hinges.
I don't know how long they will last because I just installed them. I would recommend them for the price. If money is no object, buy the hinges from the ford dealer.

My husband does the majority of our car repairs. When we found our back glass hanging off the hinge I was so upset because I knew my in-laws had paid over $300 a few years before for the same repair at the dealership. I was so excited to find these for such a reasonable price on Amazon. My husband installed in under a couple hours and saved us hundreds.

This is way better than the original crap that was on the truck! There is a recall on the hinges from Ford, but they install the same crappy hinges that were on their to begin with. So if you're like me, and still have one of these, they will break again. The OE hinges are made of plastic, and these are metal. My glass no longer feels as if it is going to fall off and hit someone when I go over a bump.

This is my review as of right now. My husband was able to install these on my 2004 Ford Explorer after I opened the back window a couple of days ago and I was holding the glass in my hand! I was lucky I grabbed it and the other hinge on the other side was still on. My son was there and was able to take it apart so it would hold until these came in. Looking at reviews I was a bit worried, but for 1/3 of the cost of new ones at the auto parts store we decided to give these a try. I would give them 5 stars, but took it down to 4 since we had to use a part off of the old ones to make them work. As long as these hold, I would give them 5 stars for that and the price. I know that these hold well since they didn't get the bottom of the door latched after we fixed both of the hinges... when I was driving down the road my window flung open (with these APDTY hinges on it) and the window stayed attached!! Whew!!
