API MELAFIX Freshwater Fish Bacterial Infection Remedy soothes the transition from store to home by reducing the risk of your fish developing a disease. The fish you bought may already carry a disease. Disease is often difficult to detect, particularly in its early stages. Treat bacterial infections in your fish and reduce the risk of spreading illness to other fish with API MELAFIX Freshwater Fish Bacterial Infection Remedy. Bacterial diseases are caused mostly by dirty aquarium conditions and the addition of infected fish. Fish that are injured and have open wounds are especially susceptible, even in seemingly clean tanks. Bacterial infections, like fin and tail rot, eye cloud, pop eye, body slime and mouth fungus destroy tissue and other organs, and if left untreated, can cause death. API MELAFIX Freshwater Fish Bacterial Infection Remedy is an all-natural antibacterial treatment that heals open wounds, treats bacterial infections and promotes re-growth of damaged fins and tissue, usually within a week. Just add 5 ml per 10 gallons of aquarium water. It will not adversely affect the biological filter, alter the pH or discolor the water. For effective treatment, dose infected fish daily for 7 days, and continue afterward if necessary. Dose new fish daily for 3 days. Remove activated carbon from filter before use, if possible. With API Aquarium products, it’s easy to keep a beautiful saltwater, freshwater or reef aquarium. For over 50 years, API has been creating innovative, research-driven solutions that make it easier to care for your fish and aquarium. With API, you can spend more time admiring your fish, and less time scrubbing your tank. Make sure to use all products as directed in order to ensure the best results.

This saved my 6 vieled Angelfish with bad fin rot.
Setup: Fully cycled 75 gallon, Fluval 406 filter, 6 guarami, 6 Cory cats, 4 Parrot Cichlids and 6 Angelfish. Four vieled species with bad fin rot.
I did NOT quarantine them.
I used this as directed and within 24 hours you could see the fin cells starting to grow back. After 7 days any rot was gone and the fins kept healing. Ones tail was ripped 2 inches. After a month its healed to only a half inch left.
NO OTHER FISH WERE HARMED. I did the 25% water change after a week and fish are happy. After a month all is still well. This is diluted tea tree oil. Look up the benefits of it. Yes, water turned ONLY slightly darker but was fixed after the water change.
My motto is proper filtration, filtration, filtration.
I can't say enough about this good product.
(PS- incase you were wondering: the other fish and creatures in the tank all reacted fine and even seemed a little more energetic themselves. At any rate, it DEFINITELY did no harm to the tetras, shrimp, dwarf water frog, the betta, nor the live plants).
If you're worried about your betta because he's acting odd, losing color or his fins are damaged- GET THIS PRODUCT! I've tried two others sold on Amazon and noticed little difference- this is the one to buy!!!!! Trust me!
I added melafix to my little guy's tank to treat a mild case of fin rot just last nightl; the product smelled pleasant (a bit herby and floral- active ingredient is tea tree oil after all) but did make the surface of the water look a bit greasy.
I didn't think much of it but then when I woke this morning it was to the sight of my previously active (albeit slightly tail-tattered) and vibrant betta lying unmoving at the bottom of the aquarium. His fins were tightly clamped and I honestly believed him dead.
A little while after doing an immediate 90% water change, he has started swimming and begging for food again, but he still looks a bit sluggish and seems to need to rest often. I've never seen him like this.
Absolutely nothing has changed in his tank, other than the addition of this product. Since he was fine last night and seemingly at death's door this morning, I can only conclude that melafix is dangerous. And if it did this much damage on a largely healthy fish, I fear that using this could be a death warrant for a truly sick or injured betta.
