Testing the Waters
In order for fish to thrive, water must be similar to that which could be found in their natural environment. Poor water quality can cause fish stress, illness and even loss. Most common water quality parameters are Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, and pH. All may vary over time and all are invisible to the eye which is why it is important to test weekly. Testing aquarium water weekly will aid in keeping your most important water parameters within the proper range for your aquarium. Choose from a wide range of API testing options, such as our popular FRESHWATER MASTER TEST KIT or 5-IN-1 TEST STRIPS, for accurate water evaluation. Regular testing will help you easily determine your aquarium conditions.

My son did all the necessary research himself to find out how to maintain and keep the fish healthy and he purchased this water test strip along with a water conditioner.
He uses the water conditioner every time he changes the water then uses this strip to test the water for pH, nitrite, nitrate carbonate and general water hardness level.
It's been 4 months since we purchased the Betta fish and the fish is still doing well and looks happy and health, thanks to the water conditioner and this test strip.
Definitely recommend this test strip for anyone who has a Betta fish as a pet.
You might want to consider buying a water conditioner in case you need to neutralize or balance the level of pH, nitrite, etc.

Don't forget you can cut the strip longways into two, so you can double-up for the same Β£!

I have no fish yet so nitrites and nitrates are where they should be. PH is where I expected it for my area, as is KH slightly hard. The GH for general hardness will have spiked due to substrate added whilst planting so is not unexpected.
As you can see from my image some interpretation is required, and confidence to accept that they are correct. Iβll keep this under review as I compete my cycle and add fish.

I haven't tested it against another test kit to see how accurate it is but I used three sticks to do the following tests; water from the tap, water from the fish tank prior to a part water change and 'clean' water from my RO system. The differences were as expected and when comparing tap water to my freshly made RO water, really highlighted the value of a RO system.
It is easy to use, put the stick in the water, swirl it around a couple of times, lift it out and watch the colours develop. Nitrate test takes about 30 seconds to return result but hardness and pH tests are pretty much instant.
Would recommend.
